I looked the back at the house and sighed.
''Do you have your seatbelt on, dear?'' Mom took a glance at me and eyed the seat belt right by my shoulder.
''Right, sorry.'' I took the seatbelt and snapped it on.
''You seem to be distracted, are you nervous about your new school?'' I hummed, clearly lost in my thoughts. The uniform at my new school was a peculiar one, deviating from the ones being worn at secular schools. It exhibited a striking black color, with red streaks here and there, with the skirt barely reaching the stockings which were until mid-thigh.
''Where'd you hear about this school, mom?'' I kept my eyes on the road.
''Online, honey. They're actually really popular in this area, almost every teenager in the area goes to Shade Academy.''
''I see.'' I was snapped back to reality as I spotted a girl about my age wearing the exact same uniform as mine.
''Oh, look! Could she be your classmate?'' My mom couldn't see from my side, and she was driving, but I could see how messy her hair looked and..how dead she looked. It felt like she was staring into oblivion, her eyes were as dead as a fish, and she looked like she didn't have a care in the world.
The world slowed down when I stared at her, it was like something was telling me to stop and help her, to snap her out of her daze. As I gaze at her unknowing form, her eyes suddenly darted towards mine, her mouth suddenly curving into a smile. The mere sight of her face chilled me to the bone, and I looked away just as our car passed her.
What the hell was that?
''Honey? Are you okay?'' I started hyperventilating. I had to calm down, my mind must be playing tricks on me. That girl wasn't real. I didn't answer, what just happened couldn't be erased from my memory and I started to question my sanity.
''..Honey!'' A push on my left shoulder took me back to reality, and I faced my mom who was placing a napkin on my now sweating face.
''Do you want to go to the hospital?'' I shook my head. I was going crazy just because of that girl I spotted earlier. I barely was able to smile at my mom and I took a step out of our car.
''Are you sure you'll be okay?'' My mom said as she put down the car's window.
''Yeah, I'm sure. I'm just nervous.'' I wave at my mom who gave me an assuring smile and drove off. I take a deep breath and face the building behind me.
This is where I'll be spending the rest of the whole year. Get it together.
I take a step and walk to the door. It was strangely quiet for a high school, it's big, so there must be a lot of students inside. I took hold of the handle and flinched at how cold it was. It was too cold for its own good. I must be real used to those public schools, we never had proper air conditioning.
I took another deep breath and opened the door. My eyes widened at the sight, it was dark inside, so dark that I couldn't see a thing. Weird.
''Hello?'' I called out. No answer.
I can say I don't have any fear of ghosts, but my imagination was getting the better of me and I could somehow hear footsteps inching closer towards my backside. I started to pant heavily, out of fear, no, out of panic.
I'm starting to panic. Oh God, help-
A finger tapped my shoulder and I squealed. I heard a girl's voice giggle behind me and I opened my eyes.
