Left-eyed outlaw

She gazed up at the pale white moon. A chill wind tore at her skin. "Why did it have to be like this?" she asked herself.

It had all started back when a group of ambitious scientists were looking back at different traits of all the world leaders and all the known serial killers. They had discovered a common trend—all of them were left-eyed. This lead to further probing as to whether or not left-eyed people were subconsciously more violent that right-eyed people. The answer that the tests provided was in the affirmative. Left-eyed people were proved to be more violent and power-hungry and out to destroy the world.

This information was revealed in the strictest confidence to the world leaders. The best international scientists went on to continue to explore the theory; however, before they could prove for definite the differences in left– and right-eyed people, the story was leaked.

The intelligence services were quick to try and cover up the breach, but they were too slow—they did find the perpetrator, though. The man found to have lead to the security breach was Gustav Evans—the secretary of the Prime Minister Thomas Bowater's foreign secretary. Gustav Evans was immediately arrested for high treason and he hasn't been heard of since.

The effect on the population was also immediate—people were scared to go outdoors, friends that had known each other for years grew apart. The world was falling apart... and only one appeared to know how to save it... PM Thomas Bowater.

PM Bowater rapidly ordered a machine that could tell whether people were left- or right-eyed to be built—one that would give a definite result that could not be tampered with and one that the workers running the machine could see the answer that the person inside could not.

There has always been an old trick of knowing which eye is dominant—you make a triangle with your hands—thumbs at the bottom and the insides of you hands as the sides. You then make the triangle relatively small and through the triangle you look at a small object. You then draw your hands back to your eye keeping the object visible through the triangle at all times. The eye it goes to is the dominant eye. The problem with this method is that it is easy for people to lie—this meant that the VISUAL-DOMINANCE MACHINE (or VDM) was needed.

People like Isabella Watson thought nothing of such a machine being built at the time, but then she did the personal test. If her vocabulary had included swear words that is what she would have ended up saying. She looked at the mirror in her bedroom and the clever happy teenager with a decent amount of friends and an impetuous glimmer in her eyes was gone--instead to be replaced with a left-eyed outlaw.

To say that she was scared, would be an understatement. She thought back to all of the things that she had done and was rewarded with the conclusion that she was not overtly violent. Probably. The fight hadn't been her fault—she wasn't the one that started it—she had just thrown the second, third and fourth and probably the fifth punch. She concluded that she was in reality a nice person except in a fight (where the other person had started it).

Next, she realised that she needed to prepare for her survival. The VISUAL-DOMINANCE MACHINE was to be completed in the next month or two. The organisers were then going to work down the ages and those that were left-eyed were to be exterminated—by order or PM Bowater. Even someone who is 110 and who can't even walk but whose left eye is dominant was to be brutally exterminated.

This left her with under three months to find a way to survive, because  she knew that the world was about to turn upside down unless someone was brave enough to stop it... she had her three months to try and find a way—or perish in the attempt.
