I smack him, gasping a little. "Screw you."
He laughs, reaching up to rub his arm. "Hey, hey. Just kidding."
"Water?" We're interrupted by a waitress hovering by our table holding a bottle of water. We nod and thank her and she leaves the bottle with us.
I look at Zayn as he pours himself a glass of water and brings it to his lips. The veins in his neck protrude slightly as he swallows, his muscles contracting.
"Zayn?"
"Mmm?"
"Are you .... are you expecting more from me?"
He looks confused, setting his glass back down on the table and looking at me. "What do you mean?"
I sigh. "This morning when we ... you know ..."
"Made out?"
"Can you lower your voice?" I cry.
He looks around. "Violet, there's no one in here."
"Whatever. Yeah, when we made out, did you uh, did you expect more?"
He shrugs, hesitating. "Not really. It was pretty good as it was."
"But, like-"
"Violet, we don't need to have this talk again."
"We could've gone further," I say. "I-If you wanted to."
He looks at me. "Well then maybe next time."
I look back. "I mean, it's okay .... I guess."
He laughs a little. "We'll get there okay? Don't rush it, baby."
I'm about to say something when we're cut off by two incredibly loud laughs and shrill voices. Our company has arrived.
"My homies, what's crackalackin'?" Niall cries, literally sprinting to our table.
We stand up to hug both him and Avery, exchanging our greetings. When we sit, Niall pulls out Avery's chair and helps her sit down. She thanks him girlishly and he bows like a servant.
"Thanks for inviting us here," I say once we're all safely seated.
"Of course! You know, you guys never actually got to try it that time," Niall says. "What even happened then?"
Zayn and I exchange knowing looks. "Nothing," we chorus.
Niall shrugs. "Huh. Anyway, what's been happening?"
"I heard about Safaa, is she okay?" Avery gasps.
Before Zayn can reply, a loud cry is heard. We all look across the table at Niall who looks as pale as a ghost. He holds out his arms, mouth open.
"WHAT IN GOD'S NAME HAS HAPPENED TO SAFAA?!" He, literally, shouts.
"Niall, shut up," Zayn hisses, looking around nervously.
"That girl is my family!" Niall continues.
"What, no she's not-"
"If she's a sister to you, Zayn-o, she's a sister to me."
"Niall, that's ridiculous. What the actual hell."
"Safaa is fine," I finally answer Avery's question.
"Why didn't you tell me?!" Niall asks Avery.
"I did." She rolls her eyes. "You were lying on the couch eating rice and watching High School Musical and I told you that Safaa had been rushed to hospital. You replied saying we're all in this together."
