Alright everyone.
Hello, I'm a female author in her late twenties. I grew up on Quizilla, FF dot net, Storywrite, Livejournal, and tumblr. And now the hottest things are A03 and Wattpad.
I've 10+ years of experience with reading stories ranging from "Oh no, MCR/Green Day/A Pack of Werewolves/Coven of Vampires kidnapped me!" to "I'm in love with my brother's best friend/best friend's brother" to 'Sasu/Naru' [Uchiha Sasuke/Uzamaki Naruto] stories to BTS fanfiction and everything in between.
Nice to meet you.
The challenge I posted to myself is to read through ten random Wattpad stories (they call them books here, but I've actually held books in my hands) and to see if I can get through them without tapping out, quitting and puking in disgust. I have to write down what clique/stereotype/common cringeworthy trope made me stop reading and if there's a 'Book' that I finished reading all the way through I'll rec it.
I'll be reading under anything BTS related because that's my preferred Genre at this moment. Unless something else catches my eye.
Special note: I'm not a fan of Y/n stories. (That's another can of worms that I'd have to unpack,)
Here we go. *Sips on her heavily spiked glass of punch*

Part 1. I got pretty far into this story because it was actually written in grammatically correct English. That's the first 10 hurdles of Wattpad right there. Unfortunately too many discrepancies occurred in the plot and I had finally cringed enough where I could go no further:
For this one it was a build up of cringe that I had to record.
How can you write y/h/color or length when you write that it's thick? If you're going to write attributes to a character just make it an O-C with predetermined appearances! (Only a part of why I don't like Y/N stories.)
College student Y/N all of a sudden has 2,000 USD in savings to just spend on 7 hot as fuck men with appetites? Come the fuck on. And you heavily imply that you're broke as fuck with only water in the mini fridge in your dorm??
There's no differentiation between plot/narration and main character's thoughts. I mean I guess the "I think they'll be okay" is different from the "You hand them seven bottles of water." But it's alarming to go from second person point of view 'you' to first person point of view 'I' with no type of warning. It's just an incorrect form of writing too.
I think I dislike when anyone says they have a DULL LIFE. DuLl LiFe? Oh come the fuck on!!! Everyone has something interesting about them. You have a history yes? You were born yes ? You're not boring or dull!!!!!!!! You have hobbies, you have likes, dislikes, favorites, ideologies, and etc. No one is ever dull.
I think a character screaming from someone surprising you is a bit overdone and this is just personal here. At least when screaming from surprise you do something... like I don't know, try to throw a punch, kick someone in the nuts or the vagina, ...what is screaming going to do??
How can somebody be immediate friends with not just one, but several people at once. Damn, tell me the secret.
What the fuck... if it was your birthday yesterday (the chapter before) Why the fuck did you not mention it at all?????
If you're claiming your main character is a huge fan of a group, shouldn't they refer to them as their real names + an honorific like -ssi or -sunbae instead of their stage names? So I have spent multiple hours researching Korean culture when it comes to addressing people and suffixes and I'd like to think most others will too. But that's obviously not the case when some character the same age as Jungkookie addresses Seokjin as 'Jinnie' or 'Jin'. .. Do you know how important respect for elders and peers are in Korean culture??? Like I said before I'm in my late twenties so I'm older than all of them. But this 19 year old character calling Namjoon 'Joonie' as a stranger is a blaring and obvious hint that the author did not research.
The sequence of events makes absolutely no sense!!! If a pillow fight between BTS and GOT7 happens, I can understand if something happens to Y/N's clothes, if Jiminie farted from excitement, if Namjoon tripped, if Jackson's shirt ripped, if Jaebum lost his shoes you know? But if all of a sudden one member of one of the group 'smells' her and thinks she smells enticing? Wouldn't they notice her perfume or natural scent beforehand? And at least put the two events in separate paragraphs!!!
They're ready to risk it all for someone they just met not even 24 hours ago. I think all idols are extremely careful with their careers, images, and publicity, like I don't think they're going to haphazardly fall in love with someone not even 24 hours after meeting them!
Overall rating from what I read: 4/10 stars

My Ranting Challenge
FanfictionI challenged myself to review 10 stories (Books) at a time in a chosen genre and write down what made me stop reading that random story. If I can read a story all the way through the end I'll rec it. Let's proceed with the cringe
