Hey you! Yeah you! You see that girl over there? Yeah, well do you know her name? What about that boy over there, you see him? Yeah? Do you know his name? No? Well you should.

You know who she is, she's the girl that sits kinda away from everyone. Maybe she sits in the back, maybe she sits in the front or off to the side somewhere. She sits there by herself day after day. You don't know much about her besides the fact that she always seems to be in a bad mood. Perhaps she never smiles, maybe you always see her looking down never looking at anyone almost like she thinks her shit don't stink. And one day, you won't even realize it but she's disappeared from your thoughts. You don't notice her, she has become invisible.

She knows this but doesn't know how to fix it. Inside, inside she's begging. She's absolutely begging for attention. She wishes that someone, anyone will talk to her. She knows that what's happened is completely by her doing and she wishes that she could make it stop even though it happens day after day, year after year. She tries to open her mouth to say hello but her body will not cooperate with her mind. She screams inside but her body wont convey a thing.

You being a bystander see her as aloof as if she's a bitch. But inside she's crying out for help. She keeps that look on her face as a safety net from judgement, She doesn't know how it makes her look . She wants to belong. She wants to have friends. But her crippling fear of rejection keeps her from realizing her potential.

All she wants is to feel important, to be wanted, to feel like she belongs. Yet more often than not this girl looses a battle with herself permanently becoming a mute, bottling up her emotions never letting anything out even to her family, if she even has one, and one day you notice she's not there anymore. You ask your teacher where she is, just out of plain curiosity and you find out the somber truth. She has taken her own life.

She was strong, stronger than most others would have been, but she saw no end to her suffering. What of I told you that YOU could have saved her? What would you of done then? All it takes is one person to change another's life for the better.

So I am asking you this, that girl or boy no-one ever talks to in class, talk to them. Even a small smile and wave or even a hello can change their entire day. Maybe ask them if they would like to sit with you, more likely than not they will say no because they fear rejection or coming across as weird, but I say force them. Get them to talk, get to know them better. Who knows maybe you just found your best friend or maybe just found the love of your life. Either way you just saved their life. And I thank you for that.
