My name is Ayesha Khan, I was born at the Royal Gwent Hospital on 4th February 1996, I have a condition called Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, despite the medical problems , the disability and ethnicity discrimination that I get from people this makes me feel disheartened because I always try my best and look forward to doing things for others to help them and I enjoy meeting new people but I do not let this come in the way of my personal and professional life.

Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus is a condition which affects 12,000 people living or affected by this condition but the good news is it doesn't stop us living a happy and fun  lifestyle..

I went to Pillgwenlly Primary School. This was one of the hardest times of my life, why? Because there were some things I couldn't do at the age you would expect me to.  I was wetting myself and making the floors wet as I had bladder problems and if that wasn't bad enough I couldn't speak or do any of the other things which would expect a child my age to do...  My mum said to the nursery staff  " this isn't fair, give her a chance", so they did and  eventually I started communicating (yay!) when I turned 2 years old. My mum used to take me to a speech and language therapist who I used to sit with in  front of a mirror and practice sounds... those classes were a god send,  it wasn't long till when I uttered  my  first  and said "mum", not many kids would come near me as they were too "scared" but as we got older I started making friends in year 5.

These were a bunch of girls who were from different ethnic backgrounds, they were great towards me.

They always pushed me around in my wheelchair and kept me company during break times, I was there for 11 years.

After primary school it was time for me to move on.. High School time!! My wish was to go to Duffryn High School as my siblings, cousins and friends were all there, but did this wish come true? nope! .
