The smell of smoke and booze entered my nostrils harshly as I kept stumbling into my best friend while trying to walk straight in my uncomfortable heels. A sea of people kept blocking my path making it extremely difficult to walk into a straight line.
"It is absolutely freezing," I shivered as I looked over at her blonde hair flying freely in the wind. She looked over at me with her blue eyes and laughed at me.
"We are almost there," she encouraged me. That's the thing I loved so much about her, no matter how bad things got, she was always there to encourage me and push me to keep going. "Have you heard from Daniel at all since last year?" she looks over at me. I shake my head at her.
"No, not since everything went down, what about you? Have you heard from Alex?" She nodded.
"Yeah, I've spoken to him, here and there," she remembered. She reached into her blue Jacket and pulled out her phone. "Now, how far away are we from the damn place?" She growled, frustrated. She typed furiously while I tried to direct her without crashing into the busy people at 6pm at night.
People all around were smoking, all dressed up, getting their cans of alcohol ready to go for a fun night out. Bumping into another person I sighed.
"Oh, we are only a minute away," she exclaimed. I breathed out a sigh of relief and we continued walking on the busy street. "Are you ready?" She asked me. I nodded and finally a familiar red headed boy was in clear vision. He was looking down at his phone and did not care of the world around him. I smiled and ran towards him and put my face in front of him phone so he had no choice but to look at me.
Frowning for a split second his brown eyes pierced into mine before it spread into a smile. "Elizabeth," he turns around to face my best friend. "Jasmine," he gives Jasmine a tight hug and I smiled at the pair. The pair had feelings for each other on and off throughout high school but nothing ever came of it.
"Where's Daniel?" I searched around nervously. I had only put on a pair of jeans and a top, my makeup was trash and my hair looked messy. In an attempt to fix my appearance, I used my hands as a brush to fix myself up.
"You aren't going to ask me how I am?" he asked me. I smiled and crossed my arms over my chest.
"I'm sorry, how are you Alex?" I sarcastically asked. Alex and I had a very long history. He rolled his eyes in annoyance and he turned his attention back onto Jasmine to talk to her. I placed my hand on my hip and gave him a look of annoyance.
"Hey guys!" From shock, I placed a hand on my chest and turned around. The usual flutter within my chest had begun and before me was the very lanky boy I had become obsessed with.
"Daniel," I breathed. He looked over at me and I noticed he was wearing the same outfit he always wore during free dress day in high school. He flashed me a smile which I gave back.
"Thank you, guys for coming," he addressed all of us. I looked down, disappointed. I had hoped he would acknowledge me personally. I placed my hands in my pockets out of habit and turned around to face the group with my head low.
Daniel walked into the building leaving the rest of us outside. I turned around to Jasmine and she gave me an encouraging smile. I returned it before I took a deep breath. As I exhaled, Daniel walked back out and gestured for us to come inside.
I hugged myself to keep me warm and entered the very broken looking building. As I entered I noticed the harsh purple and golden lights that didn't miss a single spot in the bar. I looked around to see it was actually rather cosy with tabletop games to the left, the bar further into the building and leather booths. It gave off a 90's vibe. I laughed out loud as Jasmine quickly grabbed my arm, making sure that I didn't get trampled on by the very tall people around me. My 5"1 height did not save me.
