"mommy and daddy were just hugging each other." keke chimes in.
"but daddy was on mommy." mandy's eyes popped out of her head.
"okay, sweetie let's get you cleaned up." i said taking her out of her high chair.
i put everyone's dishes in the sink and started washing them.
"i'll wash them. go talk to your daughter." keke said.
"thank you for trying to help. means a lot." i said.
"no problem. now, go." she said shoving me away.
i went upstairs and saw zion crouched down to alanna's height.
"you see? i told you, zion."
"like i was suppose to know. she barely saw anything, i thought it would just slip her mind."
"ugh, but you know kids are curious and will always ask questions. we should've just talked to her before she said something."
"well, we didn't, okay? let's just talk about it, okay, alanna?" he picked her up and placed her on his lap.
i rolled my eyes and sighed, putting my hand on my face.
"in front of your mother too." i mumbled.
"wanna say that louder?" zion said. he placed alanna on the bed and got up.
"it was in front of your mother too." i said louder.
"okay, and?"
"are you serious? zion, that's embarrassing! just think about what she could be saying about me!"
"are you still on this? i thought we settled it last night."
"well, i lied, okay? it still bothers me and i still want your mother's approval."
"approval for what?" he raised his voice.
"that i'm a good mom!! okay, i don't want her thinking that i didn't lock the door or i exposed alanna to something she didn't have to see, okay? i just wanna be a good mom in her eyes."
"babe, you're already a good mom. my mama don't gotta tell you that, she already knows. yeah, i get that you're embarrassed about this, but it'll wash over. now, let's explain to alanna what happened."
i stood there.
"come on." he said.
he sighed in annoyance.
"oh for fuck sakes, do you want me to talk to my mother for you?"
"don't use that type of language in front of my child!" i snapped back.
"babe i-"
"there's no excuse for that, zion!"
"listen i-"
we were interrupted by alanna's cries.
"please, stop yelling at each other." she cried.
we both looked at each other.
i looked away and walked over to alanna.
"hey, it's okay. mommy and daddy are just have a disagreement. we're sorry, okay?"
i picked her up and put her on my lap. zion just stood there staring at us. i looked up at him one more time before he walked out the door, shutting it.
"you okay, now?" i asked and she nodded.
"okay, go downstairs and play." she obeyed.
i got in my bed and cried in my pillow. i don't like fighting with z. it makes me so upset.
*10 mins later*
"blythe? yo, babe." i felt a hand rubbing on my waist.
"mmmmm." i must've fallen asleep.
"what's up with the tears on your pillow?" zion asked.
"mm? what?" i said stretching.
"were you crying?"
"was it that obvious?" i asked sitting up.
"uh, yeah." i sighed and placed both of my hands on my face.
"i just...i don't like fighting with you. and alanna didn't need to see us fighting either. she's 3 and that can do things to a little kid. i just wish we were more careful. we weren't even paying attention to her. we were just so busy biting each other's necks that we didn't pay attention to our gift."
"i'm sorry for cussing in front of her."
i chuckled.
"it's fine. hopefully she doesn't cuss. where is she?"
"sleeping in her room." i sighed and fell back on the bed.
"does your mom still like me?" i asked laying on his chest.
"you already know the answer to that."
"but does she-"
"she loves you. she has loved you ever since you were 5. stop doubting it."
"all right, i'll try. can we like, never fight again?"
"i'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen."
"why?"
"because couples fight. it's normal to yell at each other sometimes."
"but i don't like it. afterwards, i cry like a baby."
"well, you are a baby. and crying is normal too."
"you don't cry."
"i've cried, blythe."
"oh yeah? when was the last time you cried?"
"i think it was when you gave birth."
"what? i didn't see that!"
"yeah, because i went to the bathroom and cried. i didn't wanna cry in front of you."
i laughed.
"were they tears of joy and happiness?"
"yeah, they were. i was kinda scared at first, about being a dad, but i'm doing pretty good at it. it hit different when alanna was actually in my arms." i smiled so hard, that my cheeks were hurting.
"i wish i knew earlier."
"well, you know now."
"you're such a softie."
"hey, a baby can do things to a man."
i closed my eyes with a smile on my face and then fell asleep again.
