I rolled over, turning off the alarm on my phone then covering my eyes with my forearm. It was Friday, and the beginning of homecoming season. It's to be expected that a lot of dance proposals would be happening today, and just like 6th, 7th, and 8th grade I would definitely be going alone, if I even go at all. My door opened slowly, three small knocks accompanying the squeaky hinges. "Alec, time to wake up. Breakfast is on the table." Mom hummed happily. I slowly sat up, then stared at her. "Pancakes." She smiled widely, showing off her gap, waving at me to follow her. I pushed my cover to the side, and quickly followed her downstairs. Dad grabbed his lunchbox, then his coffee mug with a lid mom got him from Starbucks. "I'm headed to work. I'll be home for dinner." Dad patted my back then kissed mom before heading out the door. "I worry he's going to work himself in to an early grave." Mom sighed, sitting down with me. I began eating my pancakes, smiling happily, "Dad will be fine, mom." I smiled at her happily, and she sipped on her tea quietly. "So, are you going over to Judge's house for the weekend?" She asked me softly. "Oh, yeah! I was gonna tell you at lunch." I mumbled, chugging my orange juice swiftly. She sighed, shaking her head, "Well, I'll turn in your bus slip. It seems you finished breakfast, so go get ready. I'll do dishes and meet you in the car." She smiled and I ran upstairs quickly, rushing to my closet. I grabbed a t-shirt with my favorite band on it, Red Handed Denial, and a pair of skinny jeans. I pulled off my PJ's and quickly got dressed, then put on socks and shoes. I went downstairs, grabbing my bookbag off the coat rack, then headed outside. I got inside my mom's minivan, and then plugged my phone in to the AUX cord. "Are we listening to the Asian boys or the Canadian women?" Mom asked, backing out of the driveway. "I listen to a lot of K-pop bands, and I have told you a million times that the Canadian woman's band is Red Handed Denial." I mumbled, shaking my head. "I don't know!" She shouted, laughing with a smile. I turned on the Agust D album and leaned back in my seat. "Who's this?" Mom asked, humming softly. "Suga from BTS, but under his solo name. It's his solo album." I looked out the window. "Oh, so the baby cookie isn't there?" Mom questioned softly. I looked at her confused, then gasped, "Jungkook?" I asked quickly, sitting up. She laughed, "Yeah that boy. I remember him." She smiled proudly. I shook my head, leaning back quietly. We pulled into the school and I groaned. "Aw, you'll be alright. I'm here with you." We parked and I got out of the car, grabbing my bookbag. Then followed my mom through the back of the school, and to her classroom. Judge was already standing outside her classroom. Judge is my best friend, and he has been since preschool. He was a few months older than me; I was born in December and his birthday was in a week. Judge looked towards mom and I, and he clearly had been hurt. Mom quickly unlocked her door, and ushered us in. "Judge, what's wrong honey?" Mom asked quickly turning towards him. He sniffled then wiped his nose, "I just have allergies." He leaned against her desk, crossing his arms quietly. Mom looked at me and I smiled towards him. "So, am I coming after still?" I asked him with a large smile. He looked up at me, "Oh, uh actually can we stay at yours? Mom is having company over." He smiled at me, but it seemed so forced. "Honey, you are always welcome. You know that. You never have to ask." Mom smiled happily. "Thanks." Judge mumbled with a small smile the bell rang, and mom hugged us both, then we walked to our first class together.

"Pop quiz! Take everything off your desk!" Mr. McGraw screamed loudly. Judge groaned, looking towards me. I handed him a pencil and piece of paper, then got myself a pencil and piece of paper. "What's this over?" Judge whispered, looking at me, "The readings from last night." I smiled towards him. He sighed angrily, then Mr. McGraw slapped the board. "Here's the questions. 5 minutes. Go!" He sat down at his desk, and I watched as Judge immediately began drawing on the paper, he didn't even attempt the questions. I sighed quietly, and then finished up my pop quiz, taking it up and laying it on his desk. "Thank you, Mr. Davis." He smiled up at me. I smiled back, then went back to my seat. A few seconds past, then Judge took his paper up, and laid it on the desk. "Mr. Rinder." Mr. McGraw looked up at him, and Judge walked back to his seat. "Judge Rinder." He stood up, looking towards Judge. Judge laid his head down, and Mr. McGraw stared at him. "Judge Rinder, meet me outside." He pointed towards the door. Judge slammed his fists down, then screamed loudly, getting up and following Mr. McGraw outside the classroom. I frowned; he was always a ticking time bomb. He's never been able to control himself. He gets in fights, and this is the only year that I have known him that he hasn't been suspended, but I feel like that would change very soon. A few moments passed, and suddenly the door opened. "Hey guys, I'm still busy with Judge, but I just got a new student. Her name is Whitney. Make her feel welcomed." Mr. McGraw said, leaving the room again. The girl walked in the room, and she looked around. I waved at her to be polite, and she smiled then began to walk towards me. She sat down in front of me, then turned around, "Hi, I'm Whitney. People call me Whit." She smiled at me happily. "I'm Alec." I smiled at her softly. "I love that name, nice shirt! Lauren Babic is the best." She smiled widely. I smiled back, "You know who Lauren Babic is? I thought I was the only one!" I said excitedly. "Of course not!" She shouted, giggling at me. I laughed with her, and the door reopened. Judge stomped in, plopping down in his seat, and laid his head down. Mr. McGraw came in and began to open his mouth, but before he could say anything the bell rang. "Read chapter 13 tonight! Quiz tomorrow, don't be late!" He shouted as we all filed out. "Do you know where Joey Mayes is?" She asked as I stood up. "That's my next class!" I said excitedly. We walked out of the room together and talked about Red Handed Denial the entire time. She sat next to me, and we continued talking, then I saw Judge standing next to her. He stared at her blankly, and I looked at him confused. "What?" I asked him softly. "That's my seat." He mumbled softly. "Oh, you can just sit behind me. No one does." I smiled at him. He stared at me, then turned around to walk off. "Judge, it's not a big deal." I said quickly, staring at him. He stomped out of the room and I rolled my eyes, turning back to her. Maybe he shouldn't spend the night if he is gonna act like this to me making a new friend, then I don't need him tonight. Whitney can come over instead. "Hey! Do you wanna come over to my place and I can help you on homework, and stuff?" I asked with a smile. She giggled while nodding, I knew what I had to do at lunch now.
