B O Y S

The next day was Monday. After the weekend, my body had decided it wasn't ready to get up early. In class, I sat slumped forward on the desk. My teacher's voice was nothing but a meaningless drone in my ears. Science was, in my opinion, the most interesting of my classes, but Monday just didn't agree with me.

"Angel!" someone hissed suddenly. My head snapped up as I realized the buzzing of a voice giving instructions had ceased. No one was paying attention to me other than Faye, who stood looking down at me on my left.

"Wzz go non?" I slurred. I'd meant to say, 'what's going on?' but I wasn't awake enough for that yet. Luckily, Faye understood and answered my inquiry.

She seemed distracted and constantly glanced over my shoulder as she explained that we had a science project. I understood that she'd chosen me as her parter, but from the looks she was shooting over my shoulder, I surmised that I hadn't been her first choice. That would have been...Oliver. I turned my head enough to catch a glimpse of him sitting with some ditzy blonde whose name I'd never learned. She was clearly his partner, though she was much more focused on him than the assignment.

Returning my attention to Faye, I saw that the same was true for her. Our papers were still stacked in front of her as she tried to ogle at Oliver over my shoulder. Dammit, why was everyone so interested in him anyway!

His accusations ran through my head suddenly and all the gears in my brain screeched to a halt. Did I really want to be the center of attention? I usually had several pairs of eyes on me, even if the motive behind the stares was ridicule. Suddenly I was very uncomfortable. Oliver seemed to be right, and figuring that out brought me no satisfaction.

To distract myself, I snatched up the papers in front of Faye and sorted them. She was still staring at Oliver as I grabbed a pencil and...broke the tip from slamming in against the paper. Oh well, it made the perfect excuse to get up and walk away from the current topic of conversation -one stuck-up, impolite, antisocial Oliver Farrell. Alas, such luck was not to be mine.

"Hi Angel," a distracted voice muttered from behind me. I turned my head slightly to see Oliver. Goddammit, why me?! Fuming, I neglected to answer. He didn't speak again; I was blushing from the stares we were getting (thanks to the dumbass) and hurried. Faye was babbling something unintelligable about how close we were as I slid back into me seat.

"What's our project about," I interrupted. She was stunned silent for a moment, used to having me just ignore her boy-crazy ramblings.

"Uh...we have to chose a topic," she replied when she found her voice. I dropped my head back onto the desk. I hoped she at least had some ideas...Though to be honest, that would be a shocker. I started thinking about what we could do.

I'm interested in how the human body functions, and at one point Faye wanted to be a neurosurgeon...I picked my head up to find my partner staring at Oliver again. Why were new people always so freaking popular?

"Wanna do something about brains?" I asked bluntly. Class wasn't exactly my strong point. Thankfully, my words brought Faye's attention back to me. Her eyes were distant. What topic would interest her, what happens internally when a guy gets horny?

"Sure...What makes it go again?"

I sighed. "Electrical impulses," I reminded her. Sometimes I wondered how she made it through elementary school, let alone junior high. Letting her mind wander back into obvious areas, I scrawled electrical impulses in the human brain on the 'topic' line of our planning paper. Bored and unsure what to do next, due to the effects of my earlier fatigue, I looked around the room.
