How This Works

I'll keep this as short and simple as possible. If at the end of this chapter you still have questions, please don't be afraid to ask.

Every month there will be a new round, a new cycle, for this awards. Every cycle will accept ten entries. Out of those ten stories, a top three will be chosen. To judge, I will read (at least) ten chapters of every entry.

For every cycle a new chapter will be posted listing all ten participants. As soon as that chapter is posted, judging will start. The results will be announced before the new cycle starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there anything you won't read?

No. I am absolutely fine with mature content and LGBTQ+ and all of that. All will be judged equally. However, your story MUST be a Potterverse fanfic (it's a Potterhead Challenge, after all!) and must abide by Wattpad Guidelines. (Google Wattpad Content Guidelines if you're not sure what they are.)

NOTE: While I want to accept any and every HP fanfic, there is an exception. The rubric is designed for stories, with a plot, descriptions, and rounded characters. For this reason, I cannot accept the following: poetry, Instagram stories. These simply don't fit the rubric, so judging them the same way would not be fair on the author.

What criteria will you judge on?

I will judge on the following criteria: Hook, grammar, characterisation, plot, writing style and creativity. I will also consider the title, cover and blurb, although they won't weigh as heavily as the story itself.

Please note: This contest is just for fun. I will not be revealing any scores unless you specifically pm me for them. I make no promises to provide feedback, although I will very likely be commenting on the chapters I read and some of those comments might be constructive criticism.

What happens if the cycle is full?

You will simply be added to the next cycle. The submission form will always stay open

What happens if my chapters are very long? Will you still read ten full chapters?

Okay, I have to draw a line somewhere. If I feel like I won't be able to finish judging in time because your chapters are too long, I will stop reading before the ten chapter mark. You won't need to worry about this if your capters are under, say, 6K words.

What happens if it takes longer than a month for the cycle to fill up?

In this case, we wait. I need ten participants per round, so I won't start judging until I have all ten. If this is the case, you can help me fill up those spots by tagging some Potterheads in the first chapter of this book.

Are short stories and one-shot books allowed? What is the minimum amount of chapters needed to enter?

Yes, everything is allowed, and there is no minimum. Just keep in mind that if there is less for me to judge, the chances of the story winning will likely be slimmer. Also, specifically for one-shots, make sure your stories follow the Guidelines (they have pretty strict rules on smut, for example).

Why do you think you're qualified to judge my story?

A fair question! Ever since I joined Wattpad about two or three years ago, I have been very active in the community. I have judged for dozens upon dozens of contests and have lead a whole lot as well. On top of that, I have been an ambassador for over a year now and have judged lots of ambassador contests as well - even some of the bigger ones. Besides judging, I have also reviewed and edited lots of stories for others. Have a look at my Review book on this profile if you're curious; it's called Aparecium.
