"Come along my little bird it's time for bed"

"But mother I'm not tired yet"

"If you head to bed now I promise I will read you a story tonight"

"Really! What story? Is it a new one?"

"Yes birdie and it is a new one. Now come lie down. I am going to tell you a story about a boy who flew too close to the sun."

Long ago there lived a father and son who had spent their entire lives in a tower. The father had constructed a maze for a greedy king who had decided to lock away the man as he was the key to solving the maze.

The family had soon grown tired of being locked up so the father devised a plan to build artificial wings that would allow them to fly over the maze and escape. And so the father began working night and day gathering feathers as well as wax in order to build the wings.

As time passed the wings were eventually finished and soon the only thing left was to find a perfect time to flee. However their time was rushed as the greedy king had soon grown angry with the father forcing the two to leave the tower as fast as possible. The father warned his son that it was dire to fly just above the horizon as the ocean would dampen the feathers and the sun would melt the wax. The son agreed and the two soon took flight out of the tower window, however tragedy soon struck.

The son had grown arrogant and believed that he could fly higher than any bird ever had. He began to ascend higher and higher and higher till he could almost touch the sun.

He beamed with joy and shouted at the to if his lungs "Look father I'm touching the sun those pathetic birds could never be as great as me", but sadly the boy had flown too high up that his father's cries could no longer reach his ears.

Soon the boy's face morphed into a look of horror as he began to watch the wax on his wings melt faster and faster until suddenly, it was gone.

The boy soon began to fall from the sky.
The father tried his hardest to reach his son before he could touch the water but the boy was falling too fast for him to be able to grab onto his son's hand. The father reached out his arm as far as he could and managed to grab the boy's hand but suddenly the boy began to slip from his grip.

The father watched as his son fell further and further until his body was met with the surface of waves. Eventually his body was consumed by the ocean and he sank deeper and deeper until he faded into the dark cold depths of the sea.

"And after that day the boy was believed to have never been seen again or so many thought..."
