It was almost a new year. A new me. Currently, I was getting ready for a party that was mandatory, according to my family. I have been going since I was brought into this world. At first, it was only a gathering between family friends and neighbors. Now, it's a whole party at my clubhouse, where there would be hundreds of people.
"Hey, Jennie. Can you pass the makeup wipes? I fucked up my eyeliner." My best friend, Adeline, was coming with me to the party. We were getting ready at her house.
"Yeah, sure." I replied, sliding the pack to her.
"So, any reply from Finn yet?" I asked. Finn was Adeline's boyfriend. They've been together for 2 years now, 3 in February. He was supposed to be our ride.
"No, he hasn't even seen the messages." She was clearly a little pissed off but didn't exactly show it. "It fine, we can drive with your parents." She said, adjusting her lashes.
I would be okay with that, it's just, they don't exactly like Adeline. I don't know why they always frown when they see her, but I've never brought it to myself to ask.
"Are you sure? What if they say no?" I asked, a little hesitant.
"Can't you ask Hannah to drive us?" She continues to adjust her lashes.
Hannah is my older sister. Ever since she left our family when she graduated from college, I haven't really talked to her that much. I don't have a problem with asking her, it'll just be a little awkward.
"I guess so. I'll call her." I shuffled to my bed and sat down. Each number I dialed, more and more anxiety took over me. I clicked the call button and waited, each dial tone louder than last.
"Hello?" I stood frozen.
"Hi, Hannah." My voice shaking. "Could I ask you a simple favor?"
"Yeah, sure! What is it?" I calmed down a little.
"Could you drive Adeline and I to the New Years Party?"
"Sure. I'm here right now, getting everything ready. I'll pick you up when I'm done here." She seemed like she was busy.
"Okay. So soon, I hope?" I hoped that she wouldn't take long.
"Uh, yeah. Like thirty minutes."
"Ok-" I was cut off.
"Hey, I got to go, I'll see you soon. Bye!" She ends the call.
It wasn't as bad as I thought. I was just being dramatic, as usual.
I walked back to my vanity and told Adeline what my sister had said.
"That's not enough time!" She gasped. As if she was going to die if she didn't finish her makeup. I guess I wasn't the only dramatic one.
We talked for a while, and I even put some music on. It didn't really help us though.
"Let's take a quick picture!" I suggested.
Adeline nodded. She got up from the vanity.
"I'll ask my mom to take it for us." She said and headed ou the door. A moment later her mom came in and I handed her phone to me.
"Say cheese, girls!" She smiled.

"You both look beautiful!" Her mom said.
The doorbell rang.
"I think your sister is here."
We nodded our heads, rushed out, grabbing our coats, hats, and gloves.
"Why are you in such a rush?" Adeline's mother asked us.
"More snacks!" Adeline responded, and ran outside. A small green Chrysler New Port car was parked outside, on the curb. It looked like a car right out of the 1950's. Could this really be her? Looking back, she left us taking all the money in our vault, so shouldn't she be living the dream?
As we rushed to the car, I could see my sister with some guy. As we got in the car, the smell of smoke overpowered the car. The party was twenty minutes away from our house, there's no way I could stand that.
"Um, Hannah?" I said my voice shaking. "Why does it smell like smoke?" I asked.
I looked over to my right, where I could see Adeline unphased. She must've gotten used to it when from her past foster homes. She's told me various stories that broke my heart to hear. Many of her past guardians were abusive and smoked every day. I, on the other hand, am not used to this horrid smell.
"Sorry about that, Lil sis. Cameron and I wanted to get a little high before the party. Cameron told me and makes the party experience better." She smirked.
So that's who that was. It's very strange to think that my own sister would be hanging out with a stoner, but I guess times have changed her, for the worse. We rode off into the highway, silence surrounding us. No one dared to talk, for whatever reason. As I spaced out into the night, I noticed snowflakes lightly melting on the car window. One. Then 10. Then 100. More and more flakes of snow filled the window. Soon enough, millions of snowflakes fell on the highway road, making slippery roads. Creating accidents for the mere future. Crap. I didn't bring an umbrella.
"Hey, it's snowing!" Hannah cried out. She looked like she never saw snow before. Like a child. They all peered out the window, in excitement.
As they all looked away, I kept my gaze on the horizon, when something caught my eye. I froze. I swear I saw two blood-red eyes staring back at me. My eyes widened, but I couldn't look away. I felt a shiver down my spine when I could no longer see that creature. There was no way that was real. It was probably a wolf or something. I shouldn't scare myself, after all, I get scared easier than an elephant when it sees a mouse.
