C H A O S

CHAPTER 2

Rocking back and forth I kept looking around me not blinking once fearing that I would be back there again, and that's what I did for the entirety of that night.

What did it mean? What mantle could I have not handled? 'Corruption always prevails'? What was that place?

Getting up I breathed out and started getting dressed for the next school day. It had to have been some stupid nightmare, winter is not my most preferable season.

A part of me really wanted to spend the rest of the day in bed but I didn't want to seem like a spoiled brat to them and skip a day of school.

Going to the bathroom, I stopped blankly staring at the mirror. Did I bleach my hair before I went to bed? No way my hair should be dead if I had dyed my entire scalp but it still looks healthy?

It wasn't too blonde it just was lighter than I remember it to be yesterday. I didn't mind it too much it looked pretty cool to be honest.

Now what would be the most inconspicuous way to hide it?

After i got ready, i made my way down it seemed like Mr and Mrs Wallis were still asleep. Long shift at work maybe? I made myself breakfast before quickly heading out.

As I was about to get moving I heard someone shout my name.

"Elizabeth!"

Turning around I saw that it was Jim who turned out to  be my neighbour. I smiled as he came up to me "morning, Jim. " 

"Morning, I know we just met but seeing that we're neighbours maybe we could ride to school together and grab toby along the way?" I smiled to make him not feel intrusive.

"Sure I don't see why not?" And got onto my bike making our way to tobys' house.

As we went down the street we started talking "woah... what happened to your hair?"

I was confused at first and then remembered what he was talking about "I think I may have gotten too bored yesterday and made it lighter" responding nervously.

He smiled "it looks cool."

We grabbed toby and Jim suggested we take the canals which would be much quicker.

As we did I couldn't help but laugh at Tobias as James kept doing these stunts while me and him tried to avoid as many of them as possible.

We went down the canals and yet again Toby was trying to stay on his bike.

I went to help him while Jim left to check something out "did you guys hear that?"

"Hear what?" Toby abruptly asked him.

We watched as Jim searched through a pile of rubble under the bridge. We tried to see what he found but instead got closer since his back was held towards us.

As we got closer we saw an amulet, it glowed in Jim's hands and it was Oddly beautiful.

A few moments later I heard a sound come from one of the sewer tunnels near by, as I walked towards it I heard the same whispers I heard in the wind telling me to get away. And luckily for them I listened not wanting to get a head ache from their ear piercing noises again.

"Oh no! Last bell! We're gonna be so late our kids are gonna have detention!" Odd choice of words but he was right.

- time skip -

"You can do it Eli!" I cheered on quietly as I watched him try to make his way up the rope. He was trying and he was mid way but he was in the same place for almost 5 minutes now.

I gasped when I saw him let go and fall face flat onto the mat beneath him "I can't!" I put a hand on his back.

"At least you tried." I told him reassuringly as I did I noticed from the corner of my eye that James was trying to talk to Claire.

I could tell from here that he was stumbling over his words as he did so and couldn't help but feel bad, but luckily she was understanding and fixed the situation by giving him a flyer of some sorts.

"It's your turn now Liz" I got up and walked towards the rope, it was just like climbing up and down a pipe in the orphanage. Except this pipe was was loose and not solid. I wrapped my legs around the rope and started climbing upwards.

They didn't tie up sections of the rope meaning I was definitely gonna get half skin burns on my hands and legs. I reached the top and rung the bell with ease before quickly sliding down. Unfortunately for me the rope was still tied around my leg, as I reached the end my leg got caught and flipped me hanging upside down.

I was in such shock that I didn't realise everyone starting laughing. I didn't care so I tried to seem like I couldn't see them, I untied the rope from my leg and immediately fell onto my back earning another wave of laughter.

Just ignore it, it will be easier to fade in... I kept telling myself as I tried to get up I saw a hand being offered to me and was shocked to see that it belonged to Claire.

"Forget about them I bet they wouldn't like it if it happened to them huh?" She reassured me, which I didn't need but very much appreciated it.

"Thanks Claire"

"No problem! Elizabeth, right?" I nodded my head in response and felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine it wasn't that bad of  a fall-"

And here it goes again. I felt a sudden wave of pain hit my chest, my heart felt like it was being torn apart from the inside. I fell to my knees as I felt myself slowly becoming drained.

I looked up at Claire and Eli who both seemed deeply concerned and watched as James and Tobias came towards us, but I couldn't hear them my ears were ringing and as much as I pleaded for it to stop it wouldn't.

Looking around I noticed a figure hiding in the shadows and was illuminated my a purple glow I squinted my eyes to see who it was but it was too dark to tell. 

The purple glow shined brighter and the ringing became unbearable. A hand grabbed onto my cheek and pulled my face up, I couldn't tell who it was but that was too unimportant for me to care about.

Someone lifted me up and propped me up to their side.

Voices, that's what they are! Right?

If they are voices they must belong to someone.

If you can hear me please stop, I can't take it! I know you are there! Listen to me!!

It was Pointless the voices turned into mocking laughter and I probably lost all consciousness since my eyes were now closed.

I tried my best to force them open with the energy I had remaining. As soon as I did...

I was back in that nightmare.
