Her bright eyes sweeped across his face, smiling when he smiled because it brought so much joy. His jokes were almost too funny, but she had to control herself before looking back at the interviewer.
After all she couldn't laugh at Noah's jokes the whole interview and not answer any questions.
"So, Millie, this season brought so many new things for you in terms of your acting career. What would you say was the most challenging scene?"
Millie was taken aback by the question, finally one not about her personal life or her romance life but about her career, the second most important thing to her, other than her family.
"Umm... I don't know... Y'know probably the scene where El, my character, I mean obviously you know her"- she broke out into a fit of nervous giggles, trying to calm herself from her embarrassing statement- "But, uh... yeah the scene where El kind of breaks down and screams while crying was definitely a challenge for me. Though, almost every scene is a challenge because I always want to get it just right. I mean, if it's not perfect, then it affects the whole scene and shifts the mood from what we're not striving for."
She smiled, hoping that was enough while fidgeting with her rings on her delicate fingers.
The interviewer, a nice man named Nicholas, thankfully accepted and even elaborated her answer to moved on to ask a another question to her best friend. On her right, she could hear a light scoff that could be passed for a sigh but no one heard it but her. Her lips formed a tight smile, trying her hardest to concentrate on the interview rather than the annoying boy next to her.
She tried to keep up during the interview, laughing when needed and only speaking when spoken to but it's as if the boy next to her was wearing a huge light up sign saying 'Look at me! Look at me!'
She wished she could just leave the room and go take a nap. But unfortunately, she had to do press for Stranger Things' new season, especially since she was the main attraction.
"Yeah! Millie, you remember that? When you couldn't stop laughing when we arrived on set?" Noah nudged her, smiling brightly. She broke out of her reverie, nodding and scrunching her nose up in fake embarrassment.
"I remember that. I don't even know what was so funny." A deep voice said next to her, chuckling at the end to soften the blow. But Millie caught the jab, giggling and shaking her head to turn to the voice.
"Me neither! I honestly don't know what was wrong with me that day." She shyly said, brushing it off smoothly. Hopefully no one noticed their slight fight, and thankfully from everyone's expression, nobody did.
"That day? Just that day? C'mon Millie, don't be shy in front of the camera now." He said, his eyebrows raising mischievously but his eyes had some anger in them and what looked like boredom.
"I mean he's not wrong." Noah responded, saving her effortlessly. Millie pretended to act hurt.
"Hey, I didn't come here to get bullied, save that for later!" She laughed, elbowing Noah as he laughed with her. Finn chuckled again, covering his mouth. She knew what he was thinking. He knew that she knew.
For later? Just take a good look on Twitter and Instagram and you'll have all the bullying anyone would need.
But it didn't matter because whenever a cameras on, they have to play a role no matter what.
"Finn, Let's go back to your character for a minute. When El, Eleven, broke up with Mike, your character, what do you think your chapter was feeling?"
Finn sighed, feeling as if he'd answered this question a million times. Why couldn't they ever ask him about his other movies? Or his music at least? He played with the skin on his cheek, giving a smile for the cameras.
"Probably the same things I would feel. Hurt, betrayal, and confusion. Mike loves Eleven and when she ended things, he didn't understand why but it still hurt him." He tried to keep a short answer but enough information to keep him satisfied.
"And Millie? What do you think Eleven was feeling?"
Millie looked down, her eyebrows drawing together, sighing loudly. "What is this? English class?" She muttered, looking up. "Well I wouldn't say she was hurt. She didn't really register what she had done until later and she didn't exactly know what she was doing at the time. But she did feel pretty powerful so I guess she felt proud to impress Max and to be in control for once." She brushed her hand behind her ear, trying not pay attention to the boys next to her.
"Wow. Well then. Well, thank you for coming in today! The Stranger Things cast, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, and Finn Wolfhard! Thank you for putting up with me and answering my endless questions."
"Happy to do it." Millie said, shaking hands with him. The cameras lights turned off, indicating they were done for this interview. The interviewer shook hands with them all, smiling and standing up from his chair.
Noah stood up and stretched, yawning.
"Man, what was that earlier? I thought you two were in good moods today." He said, shaking his sleeping foot. Millie's smile was gone and she pointed at Finn.
"Ask him." She growled, jabbing her thumb at his y'all stature. He rolled his eyes, stretching his legs.
"Whatever. Sorry I didn't meet your expectations, Princess." He seethed, scratching his curls. Noah sighed.
"Let's just move on okay? We have more interviews to do and you guys need to look happier."
Noah walked away, going to the snack table for water and maybe even a cookie. The interviewer, Nicholas, approaching Millie.
"Thank you for coming in today, Millie. I know you're very busy." Millie internally rolled her eyes, shaking his hand again. Perhaps he was too nice.
"Yes, well we're all busy." She gestured to Finn who was standing there the whole time, drinking heavily from the provided water bottle.
"Yes well."- Nicholas brushed Finn off, excitedly looking at Millie again- "And may I just say how gorgeous you look today!" He wrapped a arm around her shoulder, his arm slowly sliding down to the small of her back.
Goosebumps raised all over her body, she suddenly felt uncomfortable with the young man, perhaps in his early to mid twenties. Finn grabbed Millie away, sensing her distress and smiled tightly at Nicholas.
"No you may not if you want to keep your job. Now if you excuse us, we have another interview to go to." He said it so low nobody could have heard him besides the people directly next to him but Noah saw from afar. The smaller boy stalked off to Millie, grabbing her hands.
"Mills, I just have to show you these cookies. They are unreal, believe me." He jerked her hands softly and pulled her to the table littered with sweets and refreshments.
"I suggest you go now. Perhaps to refresh yourself or call your wife." The words were kind and his face didn't give anything away to the camera crew. Nicholas seemed to get the message though, and stalked off, intimidated by the boy who easily reached his height.
Finn walked over to where Noah and Millie was, getting a new water bottle. Millie looked at him, glaring.
"I'm not going to say thank you." She said, staring at his side profile.
"Good." He didn't even so much as glance at her as he just walked off. Millie didn't look back to see his retreating figure, her cheeks tinted pink. But not out of embarrassment or because she had a crush.
"Jerk." She said in anger, glaring now at the perfect cookies on the silver platter. Her best friend stared at her, baffled with his second cookie in his hand.
He sighed and rolled his eyes, used to their not so playful banter. It was always clear Millie and Finn weren't fond of each other, thought there was a short period of time where everyone thought they could've liked each other more than friends but that didn't last when Millie and cursed Finn out for spilling water over her characters costume, setting an uneasy tension over the set that everyone eventually got used to.
