The water burns my eyes as I try to drag myself up through the lapping waves. My small arms are no match the older boy's hand forcing my head under the teal water to get out of the pool. My heart is thrumming so hard that I can feel it in my ears as my supply of oxygen runs low. My lungs begin to burn with the chlorine in the water as my vision slowly crawls toward bitter darkness.
The last thing that my young eyes can see is the face of a beautiful man coming towards me. It's like his entire being is made up of diamonds catching the light at odd angles. His eyes tell me that I am going to be just fine but I cannot fight the overwhelming terror coursing through my veins as the bitter darkness swells across my vision, taking me completely under.

I feel the hot summer air rush into my lungs as I begin to cough up the burning water. The pain radiates from my chest and into my throat and head. The Lifeguard pulls away from me making sure the paramedic can get to me and the darkness swells up again pulling me back under the water.

" Carter? Carter? Please, we need you to wake up. I need you to wake up." The man's voice rings clearly through my head as I slowly blink the world back into existence, bewildered by the sound of someone so close to me. I turn my head side to side, looking for the owner of the voice, but no one is in the room but me.
