Chapter 2 - Layla

"Morning, your Highness." Daniel calls and mocks me with an over exaggerated curtsey. I give him a dirty look and he chuckles.

"Watch it detective boy, one day I might decide I like being a Princess and I'll have your head chopped off." I joked with him.

"Alright, alright! I'll go to work and leave the moody teenager alone!" He winks at me and runs off before I can think of a half decent come back. There is never anything to do around here. Now I have finished my education (I have been home schooled my whole life) I spend my days wandering about the castle and village aimlessly. I decide to amble down to the stables by the river to see Benji. Benji is my gorgeous, 6 foot, jet black stallion.

Once there I push up on the stable door with my hands and swing my legs over, landing with a muffled thump in the hay. I smile as Benji pushes his nose into my hands and then nuzzles my cheek.

Someone else is here.

I scan the room to discover a boy crouching in the corner clearing the dirty hay. He looks up, right at me.

His eyes.

The most startling sapphire blue piercing my soul. I stare at him, my mouth slightly open. He jerks his head to the side to shake his floppy fringe from obscuring his view and smiles at my crookedly. His hair, the most amazing golden brown glistens in the sunlight as he moves.

"Hello?" He says, raising his eyebrows in amusement. I realise about 20 seconds has passed without me uttering a singe sound.

"Oh, hi... I was just... I mean... who are you?" I settle for. I can hardly talk, it isn't like me, there's just something about this boy, that takes my breath away.

He stands slowly and wipes his muddy hands on his thighs before reaching out one towards me. "I'm Alex, the new stable boy." I take his hand and he lowers his head to brush it ever so gently with his lips and then looks up at me with a flirtacious smile. "And you are?" he inquires.

"Layla, just Layla." I smile back at him.

"Well Layla, will you consider meeting me back here tonight, say around 8?" He asks and winks at me. I break into a huge grin and a pathetic giggle escapes my lips.

"Yes, of course!" I fluster before realising I must not seem to eager and try to keep my cool. "I mean, yeah, sure, if I'm not to busy..." I flick my fringe back and look around lazily so as to not look to bothered.

He laughs at me, picks up his bucket of hay and walks to the door to leave, "I'll see you tonight then," he winks again and then saunters out of the stall and around the corner.

I let out a surprised giggle and throw my arms around Benji's neck. "Wow," is all I can say. Benji snorts and pushes his nose into my shoulder.
