Mystic Falls was normal.

Or at least it was a few months ago. Way before she got involved, got told of the darkness that surrounded the small little town.

Normalcy felt like ages ago.

Jenna Salvatore was normal. A soft wind in the vast hurricane until she got disturbed to the point of no return.

~8~

Jenna and her sister Stephanie were popular at Mystic High.

Their clique consisted of the jocks and cheerleaders. However, the Salvatore girls knew they weren't as mean as Sasha, Dana and Connor - who loved to torment and bully others down the school chain - but neither was brave enough to stand up for them.

This is safety, Jenna thought as she closed her locker, turning a blind eye toward Connor who shoved a guy inside a locker, Don't interviene. Not your problem.

"Coming, Jen?" Dana's shrill voice almost startled her, glancing at the it couple behind her shoulder - not as 'it' as it used to be because of the girl code being broken between friends -. "Class is starting soon"

The arm lazily wrap arm around her shoulders made her snuggle close to football captain whose smirk was directed anywhere else but the girl under his arm.

Classic Playboy dick.

"Sure" Jenna agreed, closing her locker. Her eyes momentarily flickered to the banging locker and hesitated, "Uh, but... You should guys go ahead. I need to use the bathroom"

Uninterested, Dana nodded slightly "Need some company?"

Jenna fixed the strap of her backpack loosely hanging over one shoulder, "No. Save me a seat"

Connor shrugged, "Come on, babe" He lightly pulled her away, "We want good seats. Hurry up, Jenna or you'll sit at the back"

Jenna rocked on her heels, watching them leave with a small smile, until it faded once they were out of sight "Asshole"

Jenna shook her head, walking closer to the locker feeling hesitant, looking both ways before pulling out a key from inside the small pocket of her backpack, using it to click open the locker. The banging stopped at the sound of the tinkering lock. Jenna took the lock away and opened the door, finding a mop of disveheled dark hair shrank at the back wall, flinching as the light hit on his pale skin, looking up with shock whirling on his green eyes.

The boy straightened up, stammering "Uh-uh, I thought this'll be the janitor" His eyes jumped everywhere but Jenna who stood at the entrance blankly "A-nd not so soon, I mean, prob-bably till noon, close to l-leaving"

"Stop talking" Jenna demanded, almost harshly. The boy flinching and shrinking back to make himself smaller made guilt swirl around her chest, seeing the effect Conner's fun had traumatized someone. It was supposed to be harmless pranks. Not this... violence. Suddenly, she felt sick of her stomach, "You clearly have class and missing some won't help you at all to leave this shitty hell hole that's for you"

Jenna stepped aside, suddenly figuring that he'd never get out if he felt trapped. She standing at the entrance was definitely not helping.

The boy slowly flickered his eyes toward her, surprise and fear holding his gaze as she slowly began to walk away.

"T-thank you, Jenna" The whispered words coming from the frightened boy made her look over her shoulder, giving him a sympathetic look. "Y-you didn't have to... uh, just thanks"

Jenna's lips formed a small, sad smile "No need. Mystic Falls isn't everyone's cup of tea. Some are born to triumph somewhere else. You just have to fight for that"

The boy nodded slowly, as he stepped out of the locker, an image of a dance, pretty green eyes flashed upon his eyes that he found himself relaxing, "I'm Landon by the way. Not like you needed to know, probably not as there must be a lot of people you know and you don't have to learn my nam-"

"Good luck out there Landon" Jenna interrupted, smiling slightly in amusement at his rambling. "And I hope you find somewhere better than here"

Somewhere I belong, Landon added mentally, bitterly. "Yeah, me too"

And with that, that was the last time Jenna and Landon saw each other. One of the last times Jenna felt relatively normal.

Had she were to know what would come next, Jenna would have taken her own advice. Leave Mystic Falls and never return.
