The ocean waves slowly drift in and out, splashing and splattering the muddy brown land and hitting against rocks. The tide acted much like a busy mob of people- always shifting and turning to different directions till it eventually hit the rock. 'wooosh....wooooooshhh' the sound of the gentle ocean made. No other sound could be heard from this other than some seagulls squawking and crooning in the distance. This was life on the beach and almost everywhere else in the world. The reason why it was like this everywhere is a great mystery. Most people say it's because of climate change, others say it's because of the gods raging down upon the 'mortals' for being so harsh to the land and life and it was payback for treating the world like this. However, it's none of those theories.
Above the ocean area lies a boy with dark brown medium hair, a black sweater, and slightly ripped jeans, just sitting and watching the waves drift onto the beach. His hazel eyes looked just as cold as the ocean itself. This boy was Oliver, a 23-year old who recently found himself stranded onto a big abandoned city that is slowly being flooded with water.
Grey and black clouds slowly drifted towards Oliver- and soon, tiny drips of water could be heard. 'Drip...drip..drip, drip, drip-' The raindrops could be heard more and more every passing second. They sounded like nature's music- but to Oliver, it was nature's warning. Oliver quickly jumped up from his spot and darted away from the area, slipping from the muddy slippery dirt a few times and trying to catch his balance. "Sh-shit, shit, shit- How long was I here for?" he muttered quietly to himself, using his long legs to run across the land while also being careful to not slip and fall. As he ran, he heard something next to him move in the bushes, which he quickly slid till he stopped, arched his back, glared at the bushes, and made a fist just in case if someone followed him and wanted to attack him. Something did follow him, but it wasn't human.
A plant-like being slithered out of the bushes much like a snake would. It had vines for a body, a head of a Venus flytrap, and a personality of a predator. The long fly trap was almost about the same length as Oliver. It circled around Oliver with its long jaws, revealing the sensitive hairs like a real flytrap would have. It made a very low hissing noise, much like an adult alligator would. Oliver continued to stay still from this strange hybrid, which it seemed to not notice him even though it was right in front of Oliver. After a tensed moment passed, the flytrap closed its giant mouth and slithered away, leaving Oliver safe for only a moment.
Oliver felt the rain from before follow him- but felt it pouring instead of a few drops like earlier. Oliver felt his heart quickly getting faster and faster, till he bailed and started running again. This time, he took his shoes off while running and ran only barefoot on the muddy ground. 'Splash splash splash-' the sound made as he ran across the field of life and danger. This caused the other flytraps in the area to be alerted of Oliver's sounds and chase after him, hissing and grunting at him. Hearing them move after him, Oliver tried to run faster- but since he was going as fast as he could, they eventually caught up. He threw his shoes at them and hoped they would slow them down- which worked. They all stopped at the boot and started biting them.
The rain soon started to shift into a heavy storm, making loud booms of thunder and bright beams of lightning around Oliver. After a bit more of running, he finally made it into the abandoned city, his safe place- for now. As Oliver was about to reach inside, he slipped from the slippery water on the road and hit his head on the floor, but quickly stumbled back up and quickly went into a tall building. He huffed to himself, rubbed his arms from the cool building inside, and looked back at the slightly broken window. "H...Holy shit... What the hell ARE those things??" he asked himself before exhaling loudly and sitting down on the ground. He shook his head to get the drips of water off of his hair and dry himself like some cold scrawny dog shaking its fur. After a moment to himself and watching the storm, he noticed the water was getting into the building and watched as water filled in at a quick pace. He stood up and quickly started moving up the stairs onto the second floor.
He huffed for a second- but suddenly winced. He placed his hand on his head and felt the sharp pain from earlier when he hit his head on the ground. He slowly pulled his hand back to find faint wet blood smeared all over his wet hand. "O-oh god...O-oh no.." He whispered to himself as the thought of some monster followed him by using his scent as a track to find him and eat him alive. He quickly ran over to the window- only to find nothing following him, till suddenly a flytrap hissed loudly and tried to bite him- but due to the glass being there, it stopped it from biting Oliver. It continued trying to attack Oliver till it gave up and started hitting its head against the glass to break it. 'THUD- THUD- THUD' it repeated over and over a few times, managing to crack the glass a bit. As the flytrap started cracking the glass, Oliver hid between the walls next to the window and cowered in fear. He didn't have his weapons with hims and felt so weak compared to them. 'Weak. So weak.,' the words repeated in his fragile mind. 'You can't even beat a stupid plant. How pathetic.'
Oliver went silent for a moment, his brows quickly narrowing down before he clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. His thoughts filled the boy with anger and determination that he would manage to make it out alive and find other people. He didn't want to be alone anymore- he just wanted to be with someone who could joke and laugh with again. He got up from the ground, turned his body to the Flytrap- but before it could break in the glass and attack Oliver, A Huge wave managed to loosen the vine's grip onto the wall and make it fall into the sudden large waves of the water. This caused Oliver to quickly run up even more stairs till the last floor he could go to and hide in the same area as before. Oliver started shivering from not only the cold, but from being terrified that the water was going to get him. He continued to stay up on the final floor till he got up to check on the window to see where the water was at. Wen he checked, He gasped loudly and his eyes quickly went wide to see a giant crimson eyeball of what appears to be a monster. The large eye was the same size as the window so it was hard to tell what it was. It watched Oliver fall back onto his butt and slid back till he hit against the wall and looked back at it in fear. For only a few moments, they looked like they had a staring contest, but the large being left, then suddenly after, the water broke though the windows and started flooding in.
Oliver screamed and shouted for help, trying to get on top of tall platform like a table to make sure he wouldn't drown, but eventually the whole room filled up with water and made him get off. After getting off, he swam up to the ceiling to try to get air bubbles, but this failed from the strong currents at the window and now where the stairs are. He panicked, swimming left and right, up and down just to find an opening or anywhere to get air, but eventually his chest and head started from lack of air and his body slowly went limp and started flowing like the waves in the water-filled room. A large reptilian figure swam in though one of the broken windows, examined Oliver, then gently grabbed him by its large jaws and quickly swam out. When they got out of the building and reached for air, Oliver managed to see the city, which was buried deep underwater. It almost looked like as if the city didn't exist. Oliver's vision slowly drifted to black as further the reptile took them away from the city.
