She readjusted the strap of her bag as she quickly walked into the bookstore. She just needed to see if Cassandra Clare's newest book, Chain of Gold, had been released. She knew that if it wasn't there, again, her boyfriend, Bakugou would blow his top. The couple had already argued about this topic before and Lexa honestly didn't see the issue. She pushed the door and was greeted by her favorite cashier, Erik. Erik was a rather handsome man standing at 6'2, creamed colored skin with beautiful brown eyes that seemed to match his pure white shirt and beige khakis. His usual grey shoulder-length hair was tied up in a loose bun underneath his signature college cap. He turned to greet her revealing his pierced left eyebrow. To be completely honest, Lexa felt that Erik belonged in a bookstore or a library, not because he worked and volunteered at both but if you quoted a sentenced from a random book Erik could tell you which book it came from, who wrote the book, what year it was published and his personal opinion on the literature. And if he told you his opinion on a book it was completely honest about it. He would tell you whether it lacked detail or if the story dragged on and thus was very picky on which fantasy books, but luckily enough for Lexa he was really into Cassandra Clare's books.
"Looking for Chain of Gold?" He laughed as he rang up a pretty blonde with a thin paperback book about chakras.
"Would you believe me if I said no?" Lexa chuckled, fingers sorting through the different types of pins on the rack by the front.
"Nope," Erik said as he made his way to the back looking at the store's book stock. Lexa shook her head as she laughed and made her way to the teen section of the store. The store was small but felt endless as you passed by aisles and aisles of various books. The store had a distinct smell of paper and ink that Lisa found comforting in a sense. She liked that if you weren't an avid reader that you could get lost despite its small size.
She finally reached the teen section of the store, tucked away in a corner of the store that many people refused to go to. Apparently, it gave them the creeps, and Lexa would be lying if it didn't give her the creeps when she first went into the store but eventually she got used to the feeling of uneasiness that the corner brought, it somehow made it her own space of solitude.
"I see you found your corner," Erik said coming up from behind her with several books in his hands ready to stock the empty shelves. "Yeah, I did. Has Chain of Gold come in?"
"I knew you were lying," Erik said giving Lexa a chuckle. "Yes, but unfortunately, my avid reader, they have all been sold."
Lisa's eyes widened. "Seriously? This early? How did the store sell out so quickly?"
"Pre-order friendo. Apparently, since so many people hate this little corner of ours, they bought them online, and before they could even hit our shelves they were gone."
She slumped her shoulders. She had been waiting for this book to come out for months and had come into the store for the past two weeks to see if they had gotten it in stock. "But," Erik said pulling something from under his arm. "Knowing your personal attachments to this author, I got you a copy."
There it was, in front of Lexa, Chain of Gold. The cover was more beautiful in person, the woman on the cover was more beautiful in person. Her hair was a beautiful arrangement of fall leaves giving her a vibrant presence, her face slightly turned to give off a wanderlust look. All in all, Lexa was content with herself.
"Thank you!" She squealed, hugging the book tightly to her chest. Lexa dug into her pocket and tried to give Erik a reimbursement, but he denied it.
