“Dude, I gotta tell you, with that belly of yours, you could have ate all your relatives. Matter o' fact, if you took an IQ test, them results gon' come back negative.” A muffled voice spoke with a negro accent.
‘Oouuuu!’ Yelled the crowd
“In fact, your ass got more lines than a graph book. The last time you jumped, the earth shook.” The man with the muffled voice spoke once more before adjusting his face cap.
‘Oouuuuu!’ Echoed the crowd again.
“Now, I ain't gon' sugar coat none of that 'cause you gon' still eat that.”
‘Damn!’ The crowd burst out laughing.
“If you were psychic, you'd be the four chin teller! Okay I'm done with you, beast, can you please turn back to Vincent Keller?”
The man with the concealed identity delivered the final blow.
The crowd was filled with OOOUUUs and SHITTTTs, they were enjoying every bit of the night's battle.
Everyone had looked forward to this night, the battle for the Mic titan championship title.
Among the crowd was the only caucasian female, Lucy, who seemed very enthusiastic about the night.
Lucy had always been a fan of Mayor, he was her favorite battle rapper. Lucy had always adored the way he held the microphone by the wind screen, she loved his mysteriously hidden identity, his dreadlocks that popped out from beneath his black face cap and weirdest of it all - his muffled voice.
Yup, exactly where you'd love to be at eleven O'clock every Wednesday and Friday night - an underground basement in a semi-ghetto with street guys and gangsters. Great thinking, Lucy. Perhaps, you should wear a shirt that says 'rob me on my way home' very boldly--
Oh shut up
Lucy silenced her defiant and sarcastic mind's voice.
She took in the moment, the joy, the rush, the excitement and most of all, everyone's anticipation.
After about four minutes, the whole crowd has piped down a bit for one of the organizers, MC Glockshot to make the announcement for the winner.
“Aaaaall rightyyyy!! We had two rap homies with the highes' respeck in the streets battle it out right here at--” he pointed his microphone to the crowd to complete his statement as was the custom.
“Mic titans!” They echoed with cheers.
“That's right!” The announcer standing on the destroyed and worn car shouted while his silver chains dangled on his chest, making clanking sounds.
“Let's have it for Big B everyone!” He announced gesturing towards the plus sized rapper.
The crowd cheered.
“Now guys, our two-time champion, MAYOR!!” Glockshot electrified the crowd with that name.
Louder cheers could be heard from above the basement.
“And our winner for the night is...” He let out a sheepish grin, enjoying the suspense he was building.
“MAYORRRRR!!” He finally announced.
This gave Lucy butterflies in her stomach. She'd never been happier.
I'm very sure I know this guy though.
Nahhh you don't.
Lucy couldn't just be certain, she had a very strong feeling they'd met on several occasions.
Or could he be the--
“Uh hey.” A muffled voice interrupted her thoughts.
She turned back surprised, that was definitely tonight's winner, her favorite battle rapper, Mayor.
Lucy was speechless as she beheld the concealed face of Mayor.
“Hey again.” Mayor snickered.
“Oh yeah sorry, I-I-I... Yeah I...” She was lost for words.
Everyone is gone, it's just us lef--
Wooaahhh look at the golden mic.
The golden microphone was given to the winner of the Mic Titan tournament that held annually.
“You waitin' for someone?” Mayor tried to ease her discomfort with a conversation.
“Oh yes, I'm waiting for someone, mmhmm, yeah sure.” She nodded, blinked and moved her body every time she spoke each word.
She looked at Mayor, she could tell her was smiling through his mask.
“I suck at lying, don't I?” She bit her lower lip awkwardly.
“Yes ma'am.” Mayor tried to hide his amusement.
“C'mon, I'll walk you home.” He offered, gesturing to the basement's exit.
Lucy looked around again, the dark basement was really empty, the useless cars and empty bottles on the ground, but most importantly, she was with Mayor.
This basement was more of a home for the eighteen year old blondie than her own house. Lucy lived at Madelyn close, just a five minute walk from the basement. Being the only child of a single mom was really boring, especially when her mother worked shifts as an air hostess.
During the walk, Mayor and Lucy talked for what seemed like just a minute before they reached Lucy's.
“So, we're here.” Mayor said once they got to the front of the purple bungalow with a little lawn at the entrance of the compound.
“Yeeupp... We're here.” Lucy chuckled before biting her lower lip, staring long at the masked man that stood before her.
“A'ight, till we meet again.” Mayor said extending a hand.
“Yeah, quick question.” Lucy said taking the hand. “What's your real name and why are you masked? Just asking for a friend.” She joked.
“Well, that's two questions.” Mayor snickered. “Aaaand... It make things more interesting when a nigga mysterious.”
He was waving his hands like a hypnotist.
Lucy giggled and punched his shoulder but damn that was a bad idea.
Oh those muscles.
Now she knew just how well built he was, she started fantasizing about his physique.
“Oh yeah, your name?” Mayor was resisting the urge to burst out laughing as he noticed her fist was still resting on his shoulder with her expression which read awe.
“You're so h-- I mean my name is L-Lucy!” She shouted awkwardly.
“Yeah I've heard that a lot.” Mayor winked in such a way that as one eye winked, the eyebrow of the other went up.
Shit I messed up
“Yeah, see you, bye!” Lucy shouted as she ran inside embarrassed shutting the door in his face.
“Sorry!” She shouted from behind the door.
Mayor couldn't hold it anymore.
He started to laugh so much, one would think he was a baby watching a clown dancing with his butt out.
His laughter is so cute, so child like, so--
What am I thinking?? I just embarrassed myself in front of my favorite rapper!
“Go away!” She was obviously blushing.
“Right right. Goodnight.” Mayor struggled to catch his breath.
“Goodnight.” Lucy felt less embarrassed now that she had made him laugh.
About three minutes later, Mayor was gone. All Lucy did throughout the night was reminisce the night over again.
Mayor seemed nice, kind and caring but deep down was a hidden sadness that seemed like it had been there for long, like he needed a help from someone, a friend maybe.
I hope I can help him. I want to hear that laughter a lot more.
Maybe even get to know him better. See what's behind that mask and JEEZ that wink!
Lucy fell asleep on her couch that night, smiling.
