Chapter 10: Closer

Start from the beginning

Giving in, I sigh "Alright, but let me treat you breakfast tomorrow, Ushijima-kun," I said smiling at him. He gives me a nod as we both head to the bus station together.

I am so tired. I thought to myself as I tried stifling a yawn from coming out. Ushijima-kun and I are waiting at the bus stop and I could feel my eyes dropping every second.

I tried stretching to remove the sleepiness I was feeling but it didn't work.

My arms were folded in front of me and I was leaning to the back of my chair. As I was about to give in to sleep I felt Ushijima-kun gently push my shoulders with his and I look up at him.

"The bus is here" He said gathering our things and walks towards the slowing bus. I yawned and followed him not caring that he was now carrying my sports bag because I too tired to complain.

When we both sat down, I was trying my best to stay awake when the man beside me leaned his body towards me.

"You can rest your head on my shoulder, Harumi," He said looking down at my tired state.

I wanted to oppose his idea but quickly succumbed when he gently move my head making it rest on his shoulder.

I sighed "Thanks Ushijima-kun, you know where will go off?" I asked wanting to sleep already. He nodded and then proceeded to take out his notebook and start his homework.

I chuckle at the action, very responsible indeed. And with that final thought, I fell asleep leaning on the giant's shoulder.

Ushijima-kun and I were now walking in my neighborhood. It was now almost 10:00 in the evening and all I wanted to do was go to sleep.

"Oh by the way, what do you think of the game?" I asked as we continued walking in the dimly-lit neighborhood. "I know nothing about basketball, Harumi," He said monotonously and I hum in response.

It's true the man isn't familiar with the sport since he's only passion volleyball but that means he can't fully appreciate and understand the sport I'm passionate about. I shake my head at the thought, but I couldn't help but feel disheartened at the situation.

We were walking quietly beside each other and when we reached the basketball court of my neighborhood, I couldn't help but slow down and stare at the very court me and Aomine practice at.

I kinda miss Aomine now since he usually bothers me non-stop. That idiot's emo mode sometimes takes days for it to finally pass.

Ushijima-kun suddenly stops walking and I look up at him only to find him looking at the court as well.

"You can tell me the basics," He says as he turns to look at me.

"What do you mean?" I ask confused with what he was referring to.

"I know nothing about basketball but I can tell you really love the sport, Harumi. I admire that about you," He said with an evident smile on his face.

I blush at his forwardness and look back at the court before us.

"Teach me some of the basics when we both have time," He says and then continues walking, leaving me behind still surprised at what he said.

I chuckle and catch up to him, "Sure, but you have to teach me a few things about volleyball as well," I said stretching my arms as we continued walking towards my house.

"Deal," He says while bumping my shoulder with his.

I smile at him and laugh at how silly we both were acting.

"Oh, we're here," I said looking up my home. Finally, I can get some rest. I thought to myself and I look towards the man beside me.

"Do you want me to bring you some water or anything, Ushijima-kun?" I asked smiling at him grateful he accompanied me in going home.

He shakes his head "You should go to sleep, Harumi" He said nodding at my front gate.

I nod and as I was about to enter the gate, I felt his hand on my shoulder. I turn around and tilted my head looking at him curiously.

"What is it, Ushijima-kun?" He wasn't looking at me but I heard his low voice say "Wakatoshi." Ushijima-kun then turns and gazes at me with his olive-green eyes "Call me Wakatoshi."

I couldn't help but smile at what he said. "Alright, goodbye Wakatoshi. Please be safe going back," He nodded and left me by the gate.

When I was able to skillfully reach my room without my older brother noticing, I plopped down my bed and started thinking about what happened today.

I smile, Today wasn't so bad after all and with that thought, I closed my eyes and went to sleep.

Ushijima Wakatoshi started walking back to school at a rather fast pace, ready to sleep the night away. However, what he didn't notice was the slight smile on his face as he remembered the events of what happened today.
