"Find her."
Jake woke with a start. This was the fifth time this month he had had that dream. He was drenched in sweat. He wondered who she was and why she was so important. He ran his hand through his dark curly hair and the gold wrist bands he wore glinted in the moonlight. They were decorated with heiroglyphs and enabled him to use magic and shapeshift.
He threw off the covers and headed downstairs, through the living room with it's 50 inch tv and into the massive library stacked from floor to cieling with valuable tomes. He sat at the desk at the back , logged on to his computer and opened the database app. It was a last effort at the digitization of the family business by his parents before they they were killed during the Purge. He clicked on the search bar and realised that he had no idea of what he was looking for. He slumped against the chair and was about to give up when a voice echoed in his head "Devin. Reyna Devin." The voice sent shivers up his spine but he'd seen worse. He hurriedly typed in the name and a picture of a smiling girl came up. It wasn't everyday someone made him stare but well here was an exception. She had hazel eyes which glinted with mischief, dark curly, brown hair and porcelain skin. He shook off his initial surprise and scrolled down. There wasn't a listed adress. He picked up his phone from the desk where he left it the previous night and called Fitz. After three rings the old man picked up.
"It's five a.m . Whatever it is can wait."
"Fitz, it's urgent .I want you to find the adress of a Reyna Devin." The older man sighed. He put the phone down, climbed into his wheel chair and rolled over to his laptop. After about thirty minutes during which Jake was still on the phone, he found no adress but rather an instagram post showing a girl performing some pretty impressive magic tricks the post also had a location. He gave it to Jake who hung up immediately .
Jake stood by a lamp post wearing his customary brown leather jacket and a pair off sunglasses watching a magic show. He geussed the magician was Reyna. He had been tailing her the whole day ,at times shapeshifting to avoid detection. After a few minutes the crowd dispersed and she was nowhere to be seen. He looked to his friend Paula who helped him on missions at times . She shrugged. He started walking down the street. An arm shot out from a side alley and pulled him in and suddenly he was face to face with Reyna. She was even more stunning up close and his heart raced.
"I don't like being followed." Despite her low tone her voice was tinged with anger. "Who are you and what do you want."
"I...uhh." he cleared his throat. "The name's Jacob Crow. My friends call me Jake. How did you know I followed you?"
"Answer my question first and I'll answer yours."
"Um. Okay. Well this might seem wierd but for the last several weeks someone has been telling me in my dreams to come find you."
"Did he tell you why ?"
"A few weeks ago they or he told me you were in danger and needed help." She sighed. "Come with me ,I 'll introduce you to the rest."
"Wait ,just like that ?"
She turned to look at him. If you were lying i could tell."
They came to an abandoned house. They stepped inside ."Finally you're back. What took so long."
The speaker was a tall boy with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes.
"This idiot slowed me down."
"Hey."
"Jake this is my twin Nick."
Jake looked at them. They looked nothing alike. He wanted to ask but decided not to. At that moment the door burst open. A man in a tigerstripe siut walked in. "So. Have you considered my proposition ?"
Nick stepped in front of his sister "No."
"Yes." The commotion had brought others in.
"Reyna, you can't. "
"It's my decision Nick. Besides we'll all benefit."
"Not if you're dead." Nick countered.
By now Jake was well and truly confused.
"Okidoki. Come kid let's go." Nick tried to stop her but she pushed him aside. After they'd left Nick turned to him. "Follow them. Please." Jake nodded and went outside. He changed into a falcon and followed the car. Two hours later they stopped in front of an old church. Jake perched on a windowsill. From his vantage point he saw them get out and enter the church. They walked down the center aisle to the alter. "It's time." Tiger stripes said. She ran her hands over the alter then looked up in alarm. "You never told me I was freeing a demon."
"Well, you are." A pistol pressed against her back. "Or else."
She sighed and began to chant. Her voice echoed in the cavernous space
and the carvings on the alter glowed red, illuminating her face with a devilish glow. The alter rumbled and the church shook on it's foundations. Whilst everyone was distracted he swooped down and knocked out the gaurd behind. The one in front saw him just then and began to shoot. A shield formed on Jake's arm as he ran toward his attacker. He smashed the shield into the other man and he crumpled to the ground. Reyna turned her head to see what was going on, only to feel the cold metal of the pistol against her temple." Don't stop." This demand was met with a swift kick to the groin. Jake followed up with a punch to the head. He then pulled her behind a column as shots were fired in thier direction. "I had that under control." She protested.
"No you didn't." Just a vicious roar erupted from the alter and a grotesque figure appeared before it. "Oh no. What have I done." The figure turned into a ball of flame and flew in the direction of Tigerstripes who had by now recovered from the attack on his netherlands. Jake stood there horrified. "They're going to merge aren't they." Jake turned in Reyna's direction in time to see her running to
meet the oncoming fireball. The demon merged with her instead.
