Yours, Mine and Ours (On Going Now)

Chapter 1 - "The Workaholic Genius Boss"

RAQUEL

All day long, I’ve done nothing but paper-works that mounts on the corner of my executive table. I was just gone for a week and all of these papers seem to be flowing endlessly. I’ve been working like a dog since I got back here yesterday.

Workloads piled up because Charmaine, our senior accounting manager, is still absent due to her present condition.

“Gosh! Ang hirap talaga kapag buntis ang kasama mo, ang daming hang-ups sa buhay. May nausea sa umaga, antukin sa buong araw at laging absent dahil sa kung anek-anek pang nararamdaman.", panimula ng paghihimutok ko sa sarili ko.

"Kaya ka nga may mga officer para may mag-assist sa’yo lalo na kapag wala ka sa office. Hindi yung sasabayan ka pa sa pag-absent. Ako din pala ang gagawa ng mga naiwan kong trabaho. On top of that, pati yung backlogs niya. Parang hindi rin ako nag-vacation nito eh, lalo akong nastress-out pagbalik ko! Sayang lang ang perang ginastos ko sa pagpapa-spa sa Capri. Hayz!”

Naiinis na talaga ako. I removed my earphones and unplugged it from my ipod, then turned the volume down a notch. Hindi kasi ako makapagtrabaho without hearing some music. My mind tends to go overdrive without some positive distractions.

I straightened my back sabay inat ng mga braso.

“Hmmm.. Sarap mag-inat! Kanina pa ako nakakulong dito sa office, teka anong oras na ba?”

I checked my wrist watch and it was already 12:15pm. Hindi pa nga pala ako nagtatanghalian.

“Ahhh.. Kaya pala nagugutom na ko. Hindi nga rin pala ako nagbreakfast.” May tendency din kasi ako na mag-skip ng meals kapag ganitong may deadline. I never missed any of it, kahit noong nag-aaral pa ako.

May mahinang katok sa pinto ko. I turned off my ipod and said, “Come in.”

The door opened and my executive secretary poked her head.

“Ma’am?”

“Yes Gina?”, I said with an exhausted tone.

She entered the room carrying a lot more of those papers that I hate the most right now. They were at least a foot tall.

“Ma’am Raquel, here’s the last set of papers that you have to check.”, sabay patong ng mga iyon sa table ko, katabi ng gabundok pa ring files sa corner. 

“Are you sure that’s the last batch? Sawang sawa na ako sa mga papel na yan. May ginawa ba akong masama Gina? Masama bang dalawin ko ang pamilya ko sa Italy for just a week. Ngayon lang ako nagbakasyon ng mahaba-haba in 10 years."

"Galit ba silang lahat sa akin? Wala na silang ginawa kundi bigyan ako ng trabaho. Hindi na sila naawa sa akin? Hindi ko naman iyan makakain, di ko na iyan kayang nguyain.”, I said then pouted my lips.

"Haha, Ma’am naman, huwag ka nang malungkot diyan. Matatapos mo rin yan basta mag-concentrate ka ng wagas na wagas, ikaw pa? Ang galing mo kaya?! Genius pa!", sabi niya ng may paghanga.

"And by the way, Sir Paulo called me, hindi mo raw sinasagot ang mga calls niya. He wants to meet you right now.”, patuloy niya.

“Gina, can that wait? I have tons of workloads to do. I can’t finish these all at once, you know?", napapagod kong sabi sa kanya.

“Eh Ma’am, bilin niya NOW na!!!”

“Demanding much?”

“Kinda! Hahaha! Si Ma’am talaga, hindi ka na nasanay sa boyfriend mo.”

"Ssssshhhh!!!!” bigla tuloy akong napatayo. “Oi, Gina, bruha ka! Itikom mo yang bibig mo ha? Pag may  nakarinig sa’yo, masasapak kita!” nanggigigil na sabi ko sa kanya.

“Ma’am, sobra ka naman! Wala namang ibang tao dito sa room kundi tayo lang dalawa.", sabi niya sabay libot ng tingin sa buong room.

"Over sa reaction? Saka lunchbreak pa kaya? Hindi mo naman masisisi si Sir Paulo kung maging demanding siya noh? Siyempre namiss ka niya. It’s been a month since you last saw him, di ba? Aren’t you excited to see him?”, tanong niya na sobrang kinikilig.

“Andon na ko. Siyempre namiss ko rin siya but I have lots of files to go through today and they are all due for tomorrow. I have to finish them up as soon as possible. I don’t need that kind of distraction lalo pa ngayon sa wala si Charmaine. How am I suppose to do that if he will interrupt my work? Kaya nga hindi ko muna sinasagot ang mga tawag niya eh.”

“Si Ma’am naman, problematic much? E di magreklamo ka kay Sir. Ask for an extension. He’ll understand your situation. Mabait naman siya and he’s your boyfriend. And to top it all, he’s the president of this company. So, why worry?”

“Gina, just because I’m his girlfriend, am I suppose to abuse that? I have work principles and I just can’t let loose. I want to meet my deadlines to set an example for my staff.”

"I lead by example. Iyan ang motto ko.", pagtatapos ni Gina sa sasabihin ko. Palibhasa lagi kong binabanggit iyon kaya nasaulo na rin niya.

"Right! I lead by example! Mahirap nang mapulaan ng ibang tao. Istrikta akong boss when it comes to work and deadlines. I take my responsibilities seriously! Kung lahat mag-aadjust ng deadline, maraming trabaho ang maapektuhan."

“Wow naman! Kaya nga ba idol ko kayo eh! But can’t you just see him for a while?  You owe it to yourselves. At saka take a rest, eat your lunch together. Alam kong hindi ka nagbreakfast kanina at hindi pa rin nagla-lunch noh? Heed my advice as a friend, not just as your secretary.”

I thought about what she said carefully. We haven't seen each other for a month now. Then I felt that I really miss him.

“Okay, I’ll see him for a while. I miss him after all.”

I give up. I really miss him and Gina has just stressed it out for me.

“I’ll take my leave then. Enjoy your lunch break.”

“Thanks Gina!”

I took my bag, put my ipod inside and leave my office.

“Time to have a break. I have to see him.”
