My life is over.

And no, I don't mean the melodramatic 'My life is so over Mom/Dad/whoever-is-not-letting-me-have-my-way!' I mean in the semi-dramatic 'Oh my god I'm gonna be a senior next year and that is super scary!'. See the difference?

I say this, because this year I will officially be turning into a senior. And with this new development, that means I will have to decide on where I'm going to go for college. Then, I'll graduate, go to college for 4 years of my life that I'll never get back, graduate from there, get a job, start a family, have my kids go through the same process and BAM! Life. Is. Over.

I know it may not seem like a big deal to some but to me...it is.

I have always wanted to go out and travel on my own. Meet new people, see new things! Becoming a senior in high school is the equivalent of the world knocking down your door and saying "Surprise B!tch! Time to become an adult!" then proceeding to manically laugh as it runs away.

Did it look like I was ready to enter the adult world? I don't think so.

Add on that i still hadn't found my mate, and let's just say I wasn't too excited about my first day as a Senior.

It especially didn't help that my family and I had just moved into a new pack.

Crazy, I know.

We used to belong to a small pack on the outskirts of Florida and Georgia. It was nice, nothing big but had just enough to do to kill the ever present boredom. Overall it was peaceful.

That is until my family yanked me right up from the soil.

In some new, bigger pack, in the middle of Washington, right near Seattle, my family has decided that this is officially the place to be! I fell like Bella freakin Swan here. But I'll tell you one thing that movie got right. It was butt cold! And butt wet! Do you know how hard it is to go from sunny and warm (albeit humid) but nice Florida, to wet, cold, bumf*ck nowhereville Washington!?

You don't?

Well it's hard!

Anyway, it didn't matter how I felt because I was here now so I might as well stop whining about and get on with it right? So here I was. Standing on the steps of Shelton High, pulling on my big coat I had to buy so I didn't die of hypothermia. Making my way up to the main office I kept my head low as every unmated male in the vicinity seemed to look me down like I was a piece of meat.

I grimaced as one whistled from the side. Eww...go salivate over some T-bone or something you animals.

Walking into the warm office I felt a sigh of content escape my lips as the warmth seemed to hug me like a big fluffy blanket.

You know I'm cold when I get all metaphorical.

As I approached the desk, a cute young woman, probably early 20's, poked her head out from under the desk.

"Oh, hi there." She smiled, as fly-aways seemed to refuse the tight bun they had been pulled into.

"Hi there." I smiled, as I suppressed a laugh that threatened to spill out.

"Do you need any help?" I asked. She looked like a scatter brain, as she disappeared underneath the desk once more.

"No I think I-" BUMP "Ow." She groaned as she bumped her head on the bottom of the desk.

"Please just let me-" I started. It was admittedly funny how she shuffled around frantic and tried to get things in order but, it's not like I'm some monster who just watches people panic so I really did want to help here at least so she wouldn't get hurt.

"There they are!" She yipped as she surfaced from the desk. She sat down quickly in her rolling chair, sliding over with the ease of an ice skater as the wheels protested to being squeaked across the tile. Slipping on a pair of dark brown glasses that made her green eyes almost glow, the woman straightened herself out fixing papers and pencils that had been moved when she bumped into the bottom of the desk. She looked around confused for a moment before looking up at me and snapping here finger as she remembered where she was.

" Ah right now, how can I help you?" She finished, folding her hands like that whole desk thing didn't happen at all.

"Um..." I paused. "I'm the transfer student...from Florida." I marveled at how quickly she had gotten herself together.

"Oh, that's right! Your  the new girl!" She frowned as she spun her chair around, opening a nearby drawer and shuffling through the papers in it. "We don't get that many new admissions so it's probably really easy to find your file. I know you're in here somewhere I was just sorting these yesterday when this really nice woman-you should've seen her you know, she must have been a model-came in asking about new students when I was had just finished sorting! Could you believe that? Just my luck to have someone ask! Anyway so as I was saying-I just know I put it in here somewhere this is ridiculous-anyway-Oh! Here it is!" She jumped up scuttling back over to her desk before opening the file. It was incredibly thin almost as though it were empty and had my name written in very small, blotchy ink on the inside corner.

Jade Rowan.

What a start to the year.
