The Winter night was cold and deadly.
Yet the Allied troops held steady.
Out in the cold air they waited,
Hoping, praying, they were gonna make it.
The snow like a thick blanket on the ground.
Gunshot sounds were heard all around.
The winter night was cold and deadly.
Well equipped Nazis sat there waiting.
Out in the cold, the last offensive was true.
Knowing and delaying their certain doom.
Bodies stuck to the ground like a viscous glue.
Metal lay strewn, beasts with armor defeated.
The retreating Germans were heaven-sent, forward the allies went.
Through the graveyard of thousands, through the barren trees and snow.
Through the hail of bullets, barrels smoking, a shimmering glow.
To the center.
To the heart of the Reich.
The winter night, was cold..
..and deadly.

Notes: This is the first thing I ever wrote, I wrote it in 9th grade off the top of my head as my class was supposed to write a quick poem and after taking it home, I edited it a bit and got this as my final product.
( Shoutout to JasperMonkey again for helping me dab it up once more. This poem is about two years old.)
