"I still wish I hadn't come," I say as I cross my arms slightly above my waist. "Never following your advice again."
"Come on, don't be like that!" Cassie says as she grabs my arm and smiles widely, I roll my eyes at her words. "You're not gonna regret it, trust me. I lot of hot fellas around here tonight..." She winks and giggles which draws a smile on my face.
"I just don't feel good about this, what if I end up embarrassing myself somehow?" The smile fades and I face my best friend. "I'll be right there with you and we'll both embarrass ourselves, nothing to worry about." She assures me as we start walking towards the big mansion in front of us.
"I never knew Louis was this loaded," Cassie said, looking up at the house with her eyes wide open, as the music plays in the background coming from the inside. I giggled at her statement. "Yeah, me neither."
We start walking together, her arm still wrapped around mine as we both admire the lights, the music, the ambiance overall. I am currently having some trouble with my boyfriend, Chris, so my best friend Cassie thought it would be good to go to a party together. Chris and I are always on and off, it's.. not good. I find it extremely unhealthy for us to constantly fight, but I can't get myself to leave him. He makes me feel like no one else ever has. He was also my first everything, which is something that connects us and made my love for him even stronger.
"Bodyguards? Who the fuck does Louis think he is?" Cassie mumbles as we get close enough to the house to see there are two very well built men dressed in black guarding the entrance.
I adjust the red tight dress on my body uncomfortably, as I never wanted to wear it tonight. Cassie bought it for me when she surprised me about coming to this party, but it's too short. Even for me. "Hi, Cassie Adams please!" She says in an enthusiastic tone when she realizes they have a list of names to go through.
"Nope, no Adams on the list." The tall, bald man says after looking through the papers on his hand. Cassie and I look at each other in confusion. "No, that can't be, Louis is our best friend. Try Aubrey Holmes," I get impatient at Louis' shitty memory and sigh, looking at the man. "Not here either." He intertwined his fingers in front of his waist, in an authoritarian manner. "I'll call him.." Cassie says and leaves my side to go call Louis.
I start looking around to avoid facing the men in front of me when a tall boy approaches them. "Styles." He says to the guards in a low, raspy voice without acknowledging my presence. "Go ahead," One of them said making a gesture with his arm, allowing entrance. He enters the building, disappearing into the crowd. Styles, huh? Familiar name, although I don't seem to remember where from.
"He's coming for us!" Cassie says as she runs back to where we are. "Louis is coming to get us." A sarcastic smile appears on her face as she stares at the guards, they shrug.
A few minutes later, a familiar face shows up by the door. "They're with me," Louis says as the guards look at him and nod. We walk past them without saying another word. "What the fuck was that about, Tomlinson?" Cassie yells due to the music being so loud as we walk by his side into the party. "Well," Louis yells back. "I kinda forgot to add your names to the list... you said you were coming last minute!" He shrugs and Cassie rolls her eyes, they both have smiles on their faces. I walk with them, still uncomfortable, not being able to think about anything other than Chris.
"You ok, Aubrey?" Louis asks, we stop walking and he grabs my hand. "I'm gonna go get a drink!" Cassie yells, not realizing we stopped walking. "Yeah," I look down at the floor. "I just miss him." I look back up at Louis and his eyes seem concerned. "Well, we're gonna cheer you up!" He smiles and I smile back at him. "Here, let me introduce you to someone."
He grabs my hand once again and starts leading me to a slightly quieter place in the house. When we stop, I look up and it's the same boy I saw earlier. Tall, dark brown curly hair. Green eyes, from the looks of it. I can't really tell, it's too dark. "This is Harry," Louis looks at me, looking back at Harry again. "Harry, this is Aubrey, one of my best friends." A slight smile appears on my face as I look at him but he doesn't return it. He just stares at me with a blank look.
"Nice to meet you." He looks so familiar, I could've sworn I know him from somewhere. "You too." He doesn't show much interest and continues to sip on his drink. "Don't mind him," Louis says next to my ear "He's always like this at first, but deep down he's a cool guy." Louis smiles and rubs my arm gently. "Who's this hottie?" Cassie asks me as she approaches us. "That's Harry," I reply. "One of Louis' old friends, I'm guessing? I say with uncertainty.
"Harry and I met a few years back, when I went to study in Manchester," Louis explains to Cassie and I. "Now we're reunited back in London!" I nod in order to acknowledge his explanation, still not able to remember where I know this boy from.
I decide not to worry about it, it's probably my tired head playing tricks on me. I shrug it off and follow Louis when he asks me to dance. My facial expression shows Louis I'm not that interested in dancing, but as we reach the dancefloor and he starts moving, I find it quite impossible not to follow him.
We start dancing and shortly after Cassie joins us, helping me forget about everything that is still upsetting me. A few minutes later I'm tired and leave Louis and Cassie to it to go get a drink. When I get my drink, I let my body rest against the wall next to the table and close my eyes for a second. "Nice moves," A raspy voice says next to me, as a slower song starts. "Oh," I say when I open my eyes and see Harry. "Thanks" I laugh and take a sip of my drink, licking my lips afterward.
"Where do you know Louis from?" He asks, still facing me, with his hands in his pockets. "We went to high school together." I look at Harry, looking back at Louis as all the memories flash through my head. "You?" I look at him, patiently waiting for an answer. I admire his facial features like it's something I had never seen before. His pink lips and green eyes, perfectly drawn nose... I shake my head, trying to get rid of those thoughts. "I met him at a bar in Manchester, surprisingly enough." Louis never really liked bars, so I was surprised to hear it. "We had a friend in common and hit it off from there." He says as he grabs a drink from the table. "Nice." I smile at him and for a split second, I see him smiling back at me.
***
The rest of the night goes smoothly. I dance with Cassie and Louis some more, at some point we all sit down with Harry and chat about the most random things a drunk person's mind could think of. I hate drinking but it helps with the pain. At around 4 am, Cassie and I take an Uber home, after saying goodbye to the boys we had fun with. Luckily, Cassie lives in the building next to mine, so we wave each other goodbye and enter our respective building. I go straight to bed because of how tired - and drunk - I am.
I wake up at 1 pm with a text from an unknown number. I rub my eyes and yawn. I sigh when I look at the time, I don't like waking up this late because it makes me feel less productive.
Unknown Number
Nice meeting you last night.
Love, Harry. x
