I was randomly scrolling through Quora amidst the lockdown, when an article caught my eye.
It posed a question: Why does RCB face hate, even though both KXIP and DC have not won a title too?
One of the answers said: RCB faces hate as it has chances of winning the IPL. People expect performances from RCB and it disappoints. People have no expectations from DC and KXIP.
I reflected over this for a few hours, and found it to be true.
For example, if DC had to face CSK in the finals, would you cheer for underdogs DC,or for the 3 time champions CSK. I think its very obvious most of you would cheer for the team most likely to win, aka the 3 time champions.
However, if the same match were to be between RCB and CSK, the cheering would be balanced. There are several RCB fans that still have hopes from the team. The hopes are shattered when the team fails to even qualify for the knockouts, or remains in the last position.
Summary: RCB faces hate because their fans have expectations from the team, which the team often doesn't stand up to.
