I'm Listening

I pay attention to you.
The way your heart rings in your chest when she gets near.
The way you snore quietly while you sleep in class.
The laugh you make when she tells a joke when it isn't all that funny.
I'm listening.

The music you play when it's just the two of us.
How shallow or heavy your inhales get when you get too nervous to breathe.
The deep tone in your voice when you talk to her.
I'm listening.

The way you don't talk to me anymore because you voice now belongs to her.
The sweet symphony that is your Spotify playlist is now for her ears not mine.
She gets to listen to you now,
But I'm still trying to listening.

Let her know how long you waited for her to listen.
Make sure she understands that it's her turn to be there for your late night calls.
She will have to tolerate your fascination with music that makes you wish you were home alone in the dark.
It's her turn to listen.

It's apparent that you no longer wish for me to remain your diary.
I can't look at you without trying to rip out the pages and burn them,
But now I donate the pages.
It's her turn to listen.
I can't.

Okay, so, we were given a slip of paper with little messages on them and we had to write a poem containing the words that were on them. Mine was, of course, 'IM LISTENING' and this is what I came up with. Thank you for reading, it would be appreciated if you have a vote and gave me some insight on what you thought!
