The call of Naomi

Prologue

Staring. Gazing. Looking into the depths of his eyes. Blue. Green. An ombré of colors. Black. Emptiness. The center filled with darkness. Tired. Heavy. Her legs can barely hold her. Naomi starts to hold her breath not knowing if she can hold for much longer. Naomi's eyes fill with tears. Various trickles of sweat stream down her face. Naomi's face is not even inches away from Asher's pointed nose. His shaggy blonde hair is dripped in sweat covering his face. They hear numerous taps above them. Naomi is panting. Asher tries to help her calm.
"Just stay quiet." Asher whispered gently. "Everything will be fine." Asher wrapped his arms around Naomi and rocked her gently. Naomi takes some deep breaths. Naomi counts in her head. "1,2,3,4,5..." she was about to continue when a loud sound hit them. Asher quickly put his hand over Naomi's mouth. He could feel her breath on his hands. A dark shadow slowly grows bigger and bigger. Footsteps. Large footsteps hit the ground. The sound of metal clanks with each step. Asher slowly pulls Naomi and himself a couple inches back. A humongous stomp made the ground shake and everything touching it. Naomi gasps.
"Aha! I guess I found something." I deep toned voice bellowed.
"You can't hide forever. Soon you'll have no choice but to come with me." The deep voice chuckled. The figure started to walk around taking slow and large steps at a time. Naomi can't help herself but cry. She tries to hold it in, but it pours out. A small groan came from her. Immediately, Asher grabbed Naomi, covered her mouth, and pulled her into a hole. Asher signaled her telling her to stay put. The figure walked around searching.
"I'm your friend, you don't have to be scared. I can take care of you. Just come with me." The voice said in a grim voice. Asher raised up, blocking Naomi.
"Just stay away from us!" Asher yelled at the voice. The tall figure slowly turned around and headed towards him.
"We're not going to hurt you. We are trying to help you." The voice said empathetically. Asher could see through his lies.
"We won't be going anywhere with you." Asher yelled at the man. Asher turned to run away when the figure grabs him. The large hand wraps around his entire arm. Asher tries to break free.
"You think you can get away that easily?" The voice chuckled. The figure strapped a metal band locking Asher. Naomi, still hiding in the hole wishes she could help, not knowing what is going to happen. The man attaches a chain to the metal band.
"Don't worry. The girl is coming too." The deep voice said. Naomi quickly went into a ball, blending herself into the dirt. The figure got closer and closer to where Naomi is. Making each step louder than the other.
"Look what we have here." The voice said happily looking down at Naomi in the hole.
"A girl. I wonder how much she will be?" The voice laughs. Asher is still struggling to get the band off of him. He tries to pull the man away from Naomi, but the man just kicks him away.
"Don't you dare touch her, or else!" Asher yells at the man. The man chuckles loudly.
"Or else what?" The man asks laughing. The man forcefully grabbed Naomi by the arm and attached a smaller band, connected to a chain.
"Let go!" Naomi screams. The band is so tight, it brings her pain to her wrist. Asher and Naomi run to each other. Suddenly, before they can reach one another. Their chains stop them.
"No!" Asher yells. The man laughs. Slowly two more large figures approach them. Both figures laughing grimly. Behind them are two cages with metal bars.
"Let's go for a ride. Be prepared. It's not a short one." The voice says. Naomi and Asher are pulled towards the cages. Naomi screaming and Asher tries pushing the men. Naomi and Asher don't give up until they end up in the cages. They both watch as their cage doors shut. Covered in dirt and sweat. No sleep. A seven day journey.
