Mizore Yoroizuka tossed a colorful assortment of fish food flakes into the pufferfish tank. She'd often come into this science classroom in order to clear her head or simply to avoid something she should be doing. The latter was definitely not the case today. Today was the last day of high school for the third years, so Mizore couldn't possibly have anything she could procrastinate doing.
"Ah, Mizore," a very familiar voice called from around the corner, "I suspected you'd be waiting here." The voice belonged to Nozomi, a fellow third-year who had been Mizore's best friend since middle school. Mizore grabbed her oboe case and school bag before she walked out of the classroom to join the flautist.
It was much earlier than they would normally leave school, so it was still fairly light outside. The forecast predicted rain however, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to stick around at the school for much longer.
A rack for storing their umbrellas was provided near the entrance of the school. Nozomi and Mizore collected their umbrellas from the rack and quietly changed their shoes. The girls turned to look back at the school one last time before they continued towards the train station.
Nozomi and Mizore lived pretty far away from each other, so they'd rarely visit each other's houses. After reaching the train station, they would be forced to part ways. Mizore had dreaded that moment all year. Sure, there would be a ten-day break before college started, but Mizore didn’t want to lose Nozomi again.
Mizore subconsciously began fidgeting with her bangs as she followed Nozomi to the train station. The once cloudless sky was now quickly growing dark with the approaching storm clouds.
By the time they reached JR Uji Station, it had begun raining. Mizore opened her blue and cream-colored umbrella. Nozomi was standing under the train station's roof, so she was still mostly dry and therefore had no need to open her umbrella.
"I guess this is goodbye, Mizore," Nozomi remarked with a half-hearted smile. Mizore stared blankly at the ground, watching as each raindrop hit the concrete. Her bottom lip began to quiver, and Mizore suddenly found herself trying to suppress tears.
"Nozomi... I don't want to leave you," Mizore cried, those very tears now streaming down her face, "I-I want to stay by your side and have a happy ending.." Mizore used her free hand to wipe away some of the tears, but it wasn't very effective.
"We'll see each other again though, right?" Nozomi asked, "This isn't going to be goodbye forever, okay Mizore?"
Mizore finally looked up from the ground only to see Nozomi’s eyes which sparkled like small gemstones. Nozomi abruptly turned around to face the station's entrance, "I'll text you when I get home, my train is going to leave soon." She then gave a small wave before disappearing into the grey building.
'I love you' were the words that had formed in Mizore's head, but she did not get the chance to say them. Just like that, her high school days with Nozomi were gone.

Hey, thanks for reading this much! This is the first fanfiction I've posted on Wattpad, so I'd really appreciate any feedack you could give me. I don't think I'll have an exact update schedule, but this fanfic should be fairly long in the end. Again, thank you for reading Blue Skies!
