A piercing scream echoes across the clearing, followed by a deafening silence. For a few heartbeats, the girls just sit there, frozen, staring at each other in the hope that someone would take the first step and get up.

"What was that?" The voice is frail and devoid of any humour.

"That sounded like-" The second girl does not want to finish her sentence, but gets up and starts running towards the woods, from which the scream had originated. Slowly, the others do the same, silently sprinted between the trees, the sounds of their unsteady breathing enveloping them.

It does not take them long to find them. On a small clearing stands Samyukta, her back to the group, standing over what looks like a heap of clothes.

"Samyukta?" asked one of the arrivers. She can barely hear her own voice over the sound of her heart beating. Unsteady, Samyukta turns around, and the girls flinch. The fresh morning sun reflects off of the blood on her hands. Her eyes are wide with crazed terror and no words escaped her mouth as she shakes her head.

"What happened?" A girl steps out from the group, reaching for Samyukta. But as her eyes fall upon what she thought to be a pile of clothes, her scream differs not much from what had gotten them into the woods. That was all it took for the others to move closer as well, all eager to see what had sparked her reaction.

"Is that-" No one answered her. Their eyes are all focused on the body of their friend, bloodsoaked and open eyes staring up into the sky.
