The tiny conversations and laughter from the diners were quickly cut off by a loud bang. What could be happening? I quickly, yet stealthily (like the ninja I am) ran to the counter where my dad was.

"Money. In the bag. Now."

the man's voice, raspy yet loud.

"P-Papa...?" my quiet voice, abruptly disturbing the silence.

"El! get back now!"

BANG (*this escalated fast*)

One gunshot.

BANG

Two...

I watched as my father fell to the floor. Blood, seeping through his checkered shirt. Staining, his deep purple tie.

"Hey, kid."

I looked up to see a man staring down at me. I couldn't see his face all that well, my eyes were still bleary from the tears that were falling from my eyes. I knew what death was. I was not afraid of it. Especially not today.

"Money. Bag. Now."

BANG

A warning shot was fired. A clutter of pots and pans noisily interrupted the man, as he was about to speak again. A woman appeared from the back room. Her hair was now a messy bun as she walked in with her phone in her hand.

"The police have been called! They should be here in around two minutes. I suggest you step away from my daughter and leave before they arrive."

"Mama!"

The sound of sirens intertwined with the loud final gunshots. *yes, gunshots, as in multiple*

"WE NEED AN AMBULANCE"

"m-mama.."

I reached for my mothers bleeding body as I was pulled away. The sirens and radio chatter was now just empty buzzing in my ears. I turned my head slightly to see another lifeless body. His eyes were now empty as he still wore a smug look on his face. I knew he was dead, but his smile felt alive.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I young child woke up shaking, my face soaked from my tears and sweat.

"Elise. are you alright?"

I remembered where I was after looking around for a few seconds.

"Doctor Alanap."

"Yes, Elise, that is my name."

I grinned widely at the sarcasm he was joking with.

"what happened?"

"This is your appointment. Remember?"

"oh... yes, yes I remember now."

"Do you remember what you were dreaming about?"

more like a nightmare, I thought to myself.

"yes, I do."

"Would you feel comfortable sharing it with me..?

"Sure" I nod my head and, (*spill the tea, sis*), tell him about my dream.

"I see," The specialist nods, writing down on his notepad. Which he says is just a grocery list, and that it isn't about me... but I don't think that's true.

"so, what do you think doc?"

"well, I think the boogie man isn't treating you all that well. It seems you've been having nightmares about your past."

I snicker at the comment he makes about the boogie man. I know it's just one of Santa Clause' elves, playing a trick on me. I'm not stupid.

RING. RING. RING.

I frown at the beeping timer as I get off the "cushiony desk" as Doctor Alanap calls it.

"Looks like our times up."

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Kay, bye-bye Eli, say hello to your grandmother for me... I've gotta prepare for my next patient."

"Okay! Bye!" I say as I start walking over to the front desk.

Hug *because why not*

"Hello, Elise!"  my grandmother says, smiling as always.

My grandmother has always been quite frail. Don't let her looks deceive you though, she was stronger than my dad!

"Grandma Cassie!"

"have a wonderful afternoon Tessa!" my grandmother said, holding my hand as we walked out.

"Doctor Alanap said hello by the way!" I say walking beside her (grandmother Cassie).

"Oh really? How sweet. Why don't we hurry on home now, I have cookies on the table waiting for you."

"REALLY?!"

"yes really"

*gotta go fast!*
