I passed my last test paper for my examinations today. Fluid Mechanics. I don't even remember why I took Civil Engineering in the first place. And now I'm in my 3rd year and it's too late to turn back now or else my dad would probably disown me.

I looked around and saw some of my classmates close to tears. I shrugged. I promised myself that I would never cry for a subject after Physics 2 on senior year.

I'm quite confident with my answers though. Pulling up an all-nighter was like one of the best choices I've ever made aside from choosing to wear this little black dress for today. When I feel shitty sometimes, a good outfit makes the day quite bearable and that was what just happened today even though I positively look like a racoon with my eye bags.

I stood up, making ready to go out, and pulled my dress downwards because it hitched up all the way to the top of my thighs. I slung my bag over my shoulder and attempted to walk straight to the door when a familiar bronze brown haired boy blocked my way.

"Lux!", he called me enthusiastically.

"Dev!", I mimicked his enthusiasm in a sarcastic way, gaining a laugh from him. Devin is one of my famous block mates. He's known for his prowess in basketball makes girls think that he's a Greek god in basketball shorts.

"Where you off to?", he said this while placing his hands in his hips.

Great. Now, I'm his flavor of the day. Devin usually doesn't date a girl for more than a day. I dated him once to shut him up which was effective for like a year and now, I think he ran out of girls to bug.

"Study", I said while taking my phone from my bag so he couldn't look directly in my eyes, "Why?"

"Maybe we can study together?", he smiled cheekily.

I mentally sighed.

"I'm studying with Paula and Remus." I purposefully said because I know how he hated my best friends and no one knows why.

"Fine. But if I fail Structural Analysis, I will totally blame you.", he jokingly said.

"No worries.", I tell him while slowly nearing the door. "Bye, Dev!", I said and ran to the other end of the corridor, successfully dodging tired looking students.

Remembering that I need my books for the last day of examinations tomorrow, I swiftly went to the locker room. I know that I wouldn't be able to see Paula and Remus today because they are in another building, taking Political Science and having their exams earlier than mine.

As I see my locker with big, bold 'DOMINIQUE LUX ORTIGANZA' printed in front, I opened it and took the things I need. When I closed the locker door, a guy, particularly taller than me, in a black turtle neck sweater inside a black blazer with straight raven black hair and prominent black eyes staring right at me while leaning at the other lockers.

I flinched a little because I didn't know that someone was there in the first place. He looks bothered and puzzled while looking at me. I stared right back at him. He must be not from around here. We don't get to see new faces here every now and then. I can't help but admire his angled jaw and natural red lips. I know that it's rude to stare at somebody, especially in this proximity, but, bless this guy. God took His time with this one.

"How are you still alive?" he told me, his voice deep.

Did I looked that frazzled? I know that I look that I haven't slept for days, which is true in one way, but to tell it to my face?

Remembering that I still had exams to study for, I chose to dismiss this art of a guy in front of me and tried to walk away, leaving one of my 'one-liners'.

"I know right", I said while turning away.

"No, no, no. Like, seriously," he continued while trying to equal my pace.

"Seriously what", I said while continuing to proceed to the door.

"How are you still alive? You don't have any strings", this time, he held my wrist. His hand was cold to the touch, like frozen cold. I tried to pry my hands wrist away, sensing my discomfort, he let go immediately.

"What's wrong with you? And who are you? And what string?", I said in an annoyed tone. Yes, I like boys but not today. Especially not this week.

"The string of fate", he muttered. "Why don't you have the string of fate? Who are you?", he continued muttering. He was looking at me up and down like he was studying me.

"Mister? Whoever you are. Today's not the right time because I still got exams tomorrow and I need to study. Now, if you have any ways to help me pass my exams, I would gladly spend my whole afternoon with you looking for that string of whatever. Thank you!", I said in pure sarcasm.

The whole time that I was talking he was just looking at me, questions in his eyes.

I tried to walk away and this time he didn't follow me. Weird. I'm up for cute guys but weird? I think I need to take a pass on that one. I've got enough weirdness to last me a life time.

When I was near the door of the locker room, I tried to look back at the guy. As I turned around, all I see were the lockers all straightly lined up with no Mr. String guy around. Great. Now I'm hallucinating non-existent people.

I tried to look at the rows of lockers, thinking that maybe he just hid somewhere. He was nowhere to be found outside. I felt chills in my spine realizing that maybe I talked to a ghost or something.

However, remembering that I still had majors tomorrow, I shrugged everything off and proceeded to my apartment to study.
