People say that home is where the heart is

Until recently, I didn't know what that meant

I thought home is where you live and spend your days

But that feels so empty

The walls are bare

and the air is cold

You can't sleep at night

and you're stuck with nowhere to go

I didn't know that home was the sound of your TV in the background

or the warmth of your laugh

I didn't know that home was the way you would scold me

or the way you rubbed my back

For now, I have refuge from this empty box

I can keep going back to your embrace

But when your embrace is gone,

my home will be gone as well

And then how long will it be until I have a home again?
