The sun is shining. It is midday upon the mountain village as Rosethorn walked the dirt road towards the market. She clutched an empty wicker basket tightly in her hands. Today, she wore a white frilled dress that just bearly touched the ground beneath her feet. She had laced up a pair of leather, shallow heeled boots and pulled her white stockings up to her thighs.
She felt like having her hair down today, instead of the bun style she would usually wear.
She stopped for a moment, bringing her hand up to her forehead, overlooking the valley and the black forest beyond.
"Aye, Rosendorn!" She turned her head, fully turning her body as two young women quickly ran over to her. "Oh, hallo, Katarina. Lauren." Rose smiled a closed lip smile as she hugged the two young women.
Rose had never been sweet like the other ladies. She tended to have a sort of cold, and off putting demeanor. Including the fact that she was the tallest woman in the village, standing at about 6 feet and 10 inches. Most people tended to simply nod politely in her direction when passing her on the street.
"Katarina and I were just headed out to the feild to blumen pflücken. To pick flowers. Want to join?" Lauren smiles sweetly as she clasped her hands together. "Ja, I would love to." Rose nodded her head, her hands gripping the wicker basket tightly.
The ladies held hands, making their way out and into the valley of wild flowers below.

Only about an hour had passed by the time the three ladies reached their desired spot in the flower fields. Many untamed rows of red, pink, blue and white flowers stretched out for miles away, making the land look almost like a rainbow after a storm. "I'm going over there! You two go pick some and maybe we shall have enough to blumenkronen machen! To make flower crowns!" Katarina called as she quickly hurried off to another part the feild. "I'll go too, Rosendorn. See if you can get die guten blumen. The good flowers. You are best at finding them." Lauren smiled, waved and went off in the opposite direction.
Rose went forward, walking a few yards before kneeling down to pick some of the flowers. As she picked the flowers, she could not help buy occasionally steal a glance over her shoulder. From where she was in her kneeling position, she was near, however not quite in the shadow of der schwarzwald. The black forest.
Every few minutes, she would pause and glance over her shoulder before returning to pick more flowers.
There had been a bit of wind that day, really no more than a gentle breeze. Every time the wind would pick up, it would weave through her aubern hair, allowing it to blow freely like the hangings of a willow. Through the unsettling silence, she began to hum lightly. Though not overly raised, her voice was still carried by the wind, deeper and deeper into the forest.
There was a sudden snap of a branch from close behind her, and she abruptly stopped her humming with a light gasp. She turned her head to look behind her, gazing off into the forest, her eyes darting to every spot along the treeline, simply awaiting to catch sight of whatever had broken that branch. Yet thankfully, nothing was there.
She gave a light giggle, merely to herself for being so silly, and turned back to the sunny side of the valley. She was about to resume her melody, when a gentle gust of wind blew past from behind, the breeze leaving her with chills as it danced over her neck. She looked back, no longer wishing to hum.
From where she stood, she could clearly see a large yellow lily standing alone inside the shadow of the black forest. Rose peered at it, tilting her head in slight confusion. There were no lilies in the valley, let alone at all yellow flowers.
