"Okay, you can do this, I believe in you." My moms gentle hands guide me towards the principal's office where I will be meeting my guide for the year, or at least until they give up on me. I am hoping they will be nice enough to handle me for the remainder of the school year, especially since there are only three more months left of junior year.

"Oh good, it's San. I am Principal Kim, I am pleased to meet you. I've heard great things about your talents."

"Oh, I wasn't sure I had those." I remark trying to make the situation lighter, sensing another presence that was overpowering the room, but making no noise. The principal seems light hearted as he chuckles at my tone, and I feel myself becoming slightly comfortable, but still too disoriented of what anything around me looked like for me to feel entirely comfortable in the suffocating room.

"Well I'd assume my guide is also in this room, or maybe it's just a statue that smells like body spray." I mention casually, trying to keep the principal in a good mood so I can waste more time away from actually walking around, too embarrassed of my beginner cane use.

"Oh, why yes, this is Jung Wooyoung, he will do his very best to help you throughout the rest of the year. He is failing every class except art, so he will also need your influence, San." I laugh at the principals quip about Wooyoung, and instead of humiliating myself by extending my hand out to open air, I instead introduce myself to the body to my right.

"I'm San, and I just became blind three days ago, so I would love your sympathy, it'd help."

"You told me this would be easy." The boy groans to the principal and I can feel the disapproval radiating from Mr. Kim.

"I'm sure you both will be fast friends, now I don't want you both to be late to first hour, so go along and show him what you can before the bell rings. Please cooperate and be kind Wooyoung. I am counting on you."

"Come on, San." His arm laces into mine and I retract my cane slightly so he can take me along with him. When the door to the office closes, he releases his hold on my arm, and tells me to use my cane.

"I feel like you don't understand how bad this sucks." I say, salty about his disinterest in my case.

"I feel like you are going to ruin my year, so I guess we are even."

"That doesn't even compare-"

"Shut up patchy." He snaps, grasping my shoulder to stop me from running into something, I assume.

"Oh now that's low." I frown, stabbing my stick at the wall, and adjusting myself accordingly.

"That was the whole fucking point. This is the science hallway we're in. It's by the front door so you can always kind of know where it is I guess."

"Oh, so you're trying to be helpful, wow."

"Shut up before I stop." I pretend to zip my lips and I can feel the atmosphere lighten a little bit. This Wooyoung kid is big trouble, and I can already see him ditching me day two. Yet, any help I can get is good enough, and I need to know my surroundings. "It's a sort of gray blue wall, and white tiles on the ground. To the right are the lockers, they're black. And the classrooms are on both sides, but stay to the right when you walk so people don't run into you." Wooyoung just sort of talks fluidly, like he suddenly found it in him to care, and I resist the urge to cry just because of his sudden kindness. I don't mention anything about him telling me the color, I simply try to spark more information from him.
