Matthew rose from his chair as the bell rang. His hands buttoning up his vest as the teachers around him hurried to their classes. The bell signalled the end of Recess, which was when the teacher usually had their Friday meeting. He took the time to clean up the papers strewn all over the meeting room table. Some teachers chipped in to help, sometimes handing him a folder before leaving the room.
Soon the meeting room was completely empty, save for the cheerful face of Mr Daniel Way waiting for him by the door. He smiled back gleefully as he stocked the filing cabinets full of the papers.
They had been friends for years, always following each other to whichever school they ended up working at. Actually, friends was an understatement. They had both been through the hells of college together. They knew exactly what to say to make each other laugh and how to stop their crying.
They knew exactly what each other's coffee order is for every day of the week. They knew what the other hated, what the other liked. They knew each other's daily timetable, had a copy of each other's housekeys.
They cared for each other greater than any of them could realize. They were more than friends, but none of them could care to admit that.
Matt looked at the bulging stack of documents his friend was carrying, before raising an eyebrow.
"Free this session?" Daniel asked, grinning at his expression. "I was hoping you could help me with these SRC constitution documents."
"Nope, not free at all," Matt teased. "Come on in and sit down,"
He watched as Dan set down the stack of papers and started organizing them. Dan's glasses started slipping off as he stared down at a folder labelled 'Captains'.
There was something about his light blue eyes that intrigued Matt. He loved getting lost in them, like floating on a gentle sea. For a few seconds, he lost track of what he was doing, before shaking himself out of his trance.
Matt pondered the idea of a life with Dan. Even more so than he cared to admit, but throughout their friendship, there was no more than tiny hints of romance. Just last week, he fell asleep while they were watching a movie on Daniel's couch. He woke up flustered, surprised to find out that he had been resting gingerly on his friend's lap.
Hell, they were probably not even hints. Just small things Matt started overthinking about.
"You're not just going to stand there are you?" Dan remarked playfully. He was always flirty towards Matt. He had hoped his best friend would take the hint, but he appeared incredibly and undeniably straight.
"Your glasses are slipping off," Matt replied, smirking.
"Now now, I didn't know you paid that much attention to my eyes, Mr Maclaren," Dan purred, mocking innocence. God, why did he have to do that?
Chills ran down Matt's spine as he said that. Something erupted inside of him, and his heart expanded about twice its size. The pure sexiness in his friend's voice arose deep feelings within him, it also arose something more physical.
He was relieved his pants were tight, otherwise—
Wait, no. He did not want to think about that. Nope.
Let's move back to Matt's deep feelings. Deep down he was unsure about it. If he ever admitted them, there was an incredibly large chance he would just get hurt.
"Alright let's get back to work! I'm your boss now, remember?" Matthew said, rolling his eyes. He acted nonchalantly, but secretly he was relieved to change the subject.
Soon they began the work, sorting out the paperwork and fixing it up to be ready for the Student Government.
"Hey, can you pass me that pen?" Matt said absent-mindedly, crossing and ticking off different rule clauses.
"Sure thing," Dan replied, picking up the pen. He dropped into Matt's open hand, but not before Matt tried to snatch it out of Dan's hand.
For a moment they held each other's hands. Matt's face flushed. Their eyes locked, it was for mere moments, but it seemed like forever. Matt's dark brown eyes gazed longingly over Dan's hazy blue.
Daniel blushed like
Their hands intertwined, and all Matt wanted to do was share a kiss. To wrap his arms around the other. But then it stopped. Silence followed, deafening silence, but then Daniel cut the tension as if it were butter.
"Heh, what was that about?" Daniel laughed nervously, scratching his neck.
"I–" Matt blushed. "–I don't know."
There were a few moments of silence. Unspoken words hung in the air like hanging lanterns. They glowed with intensity but never came to the point that the fire inside them escaped. The words would never be spoken.
But then—
"Okay, I feel like this an opportune moment to say that I like you." Daniel looked away, fiddling with his tie. "I always have."
"Wha–"
"I honestly don't know how this works, I've never had a relationship before. I literally just watched an episode of Arrow last night and Felicity Smoak admitted that she loved Oliver Queen. I thought it would be easy and honestly, I think saying it just quickly like this was a big mistake I never should've taken advice from a fic–" Daniel looked wide-eyed, he was jangled, and he was referencing pop culture. Matt thought he sounded cute, but it was overshadowed by the fact that he didn't know what to say. His heart exploded into fireworks, and his eyes were tinted by rose-coloured glasses.
Matt couldn't speak. The shock resonated too deeply, but he knew if he didn't say anything it would all end now. Daniel continued to ramble, and with each sentence he finished, he looked more and more as if he was regretting his words.
Daniel looked back with his head hung in shame. His eyes welled with tears as he realized the weight of what he said. His back arched and his legs poised to get up and run away, to never look back. He glanced at the glass of the meeting room door, eager to leave.
However, his plan was foiled when Matt held out his arm. Matt was unable to speak, but he could close the distance between them easily. He caressed Daniel's cheek, and he pressed his lips against his. Daniel froze in shock, a tear streaming down his face as he relaxed. Their lips against each other's said more than any words could ever express.
Their tongues lapped over the surfaces of each other's lips. Tasting the sweet essence of the other's breath. Both of them fought for dominance, their lips crashing like waves along a rocky ocean cliff. Their bodies moving in unison. Eventually, Matt came out victorious, pinning Daniel against the hard mahogany meeting table. Matt ruffled his hands through Daniel's Hair, their movements turning more and more like animal's in heat.
For a few moments that felt like forever, Matt and Daniel were locked there. Through the glass of the meeting room door, sunlight illuminated their lips locked in a passionate frenzy.
