My Own Fame (Sequel to 'The Trap')

Lily's POV Chapter 6

He folded his arms and gave me a light smile. "Oh so now I make you laugh?"

"Of course! You're a funny guy!"

Then Ax leaned in to kiss my cheek before he gently grabbed my hand and led me over to the couch. 

"So Lil, what made you want to become a school nurse?"

"Well I think I've told you before, but I love taking care of others and being in my younger siblings lives at school is a bonus."

"I love hearing you say that! But who takes care of you?"

"That's just it, Ax. I feed off of everyone's energy and I get fulfilled that way."

"Lilian." (He rarely calls me by my birth name.)

"Yes, Axel?" I asked, folding my arms and in a motherly tone.

"Come on, I'm serious. Who takes care of you?"

I took a deep breath. "I never thought of that before." (Honest, I hadn't.)

"Really?"

"Yeah. I'm just so busy with taking care of the people around me to think about my own needs."

"Well um can I take care of you, please?"

"What?"

"Please tell me all of your feelings, thoughts, wants and needs. I want you to burden me with all of your troubles."

I couldn't help the tears that began to fill up my eyes and run down my face.

"What's going on, beautiful?"

"I'm just blown away that you would ask me that question. Y'know no one has asked me that question before. So thanks so much!"

"It's my pleasure, sweetie!"he replied, pulling me to himself.

"Oh there you are, Axel. I told you to tell me when Lily arrived," Sydney said.

"Lily's here."

She rolled her eyes. "I can see that."

Sydney walked over to my side of the couch, pulled me to my feet and gave me a giant hug.

Then she gave us, 'the look'. She's been giving my siblings that look since she was our nanny. But I could probably count on one hand how many times she's given me that look.

"Axel Roger and Lilian Grace, I'm not paying you two to sit there and talk. Now go play with my kids!"

"You're getting paid, Ax?"

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah with dinner and memories."

"That's sweet."

"Sydney, why aren't I getting paid like my girl? We'll do the same work."

"You're just my brother, Axel. Lily is my nanny."

"Just? Wow I'm feeling the love, Sydney."

"Stop being so dramatic."

"Come on, Ax. We can talk when the kids go down for their naps."

"When will that be?"

"Just come play with us!"

He heavily sighed but he followed me out to the backyard. As I walked outside, it was like I was stepping back in time. This is where my siblings and I grew up. I could walk everywhere and tell the kids and Ax about all of my adventures as a kid. It's just mind-blowing how this backyard hasn't really changed. Oh sure the toys and the furniture has and the trees are taller, but the fences are the same, all of my old neighbors are still here and the structure of the house is the same. It's so ironic how life works out sometimes.
