A spooky moment

I was just about to fall asleep, when I heard something scuttling across the window, like fingernails over glass. Now, normally such a thing wouldn't frighten me. The reason this sent shivers down my spine, though, was the fact that there wasn't a tree anywhere near my second floor window.
