nessa quickly glances over at her mirror. she's wearing her hair down, some makeup from earlier today, and snuggled inside an oversized pink hoodie. she looks like she just got out of bed yet still manages to look somewhat presentable.
her phone begins to ring in her hands and she smiles, sliding her finger across the screen, accepting the facetime call. within seconds, josh's face appears on the screen. he's smiling but it's not a full genuine one. somethings on his mind.
"why you so sad boy?" nessa questions, her voice filled with concern. josh looks taken aback at first, probably because of how she sounds. nessa often gets told her voice is the same as a little kids. she hates it but it's whatever.
"you know why" he replies, bummed out.
nessa pouts, laying on her stomach. she watches the screen for a second. josh is biting at the pull string on his own hoodie and it looks very cute from where nessa is sitting.
"you'll ruin your hoodie if you do that" she informs him, her eyebrows furrowed.
josh smiles, rolling over onto his back and laying with the phone above his face. he holds up the string and puts it in his mouth once again.
"oops" he murmurs.
nessa laughs a hearty laugh, her pearly whites showing and she shakes her head. this kid is the goofiest.
"time to get serious" she declares. "i don't want you getting upset over something you have no control over okay? don't be dumb. you have no reason to be mad at yourself because whatever sort of comments are coming my way, i'm prepared for them okay-"
"but-"
"don't interrupt me!" she scowls. josh holds one hand up in mock surrender, allowing her to continue. "i'm a big girl josh. i can handle it. you did nothing wrong. promise me you won't get upset about it okay?".
josh closes his eyes, breathing out through his nose. "fine" he mutters just loud enough for her to hear.
nessa smiles, celebrating her victory in silence.
"okay let's play 21 questions".
