I, like many other people when they sleep, had a dream. Unlike those aforementioned "other people", this dream almost took my life. It all started when I saw those eyes. Those very alive, but very dead eyes.
The dream took place in wonderland for children. There was the scent of pizza in the air, music playing from the speakers, and children running from arcade game to arcade game. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, just kids enjoying themselves. I stood in the center of the pizzeria, simply taking in the experience. As my eyes drifted around the room, something finally snapped me out of my daze, and really caught my attention. It was a pair eyes. Even after only looking for a few seconds, I could tell something was very off. I made my way to the eyes, glistening in the shadows. When I finally got close enough to see who the eyes belong to, I realized it was no human. Those dead eyes sat snugly in the head of an animatronic yellow rabbit.
Apon seeing the animatronic, memories from my childhood began flooding back. As a kid, I used to draw my favorite characters from the Fredbear and Friends show on tv; however, my mom would often scold me for drawing that specific golden rabbit. I never knew the reason she didn't like it until a couple of years later. My parents got the first computer we've ever had. Late one night, while exploring the internet, I stumbled upon an article about a man in a yellow rabbit costume who murdered a number of kids about 10 years ago. I was scared by the events when I read it. I could have easily been one of those missing kids. To this day, it's all still pretty horrifying, because they never arrested the murderer. As I zone back into the scene of the pizzeria I again noticed the eyes. Something was different however. They seem to have changed to a glossier, more dead look. The entire place, once a lively establishment, full of life, was now crumbled to the ground. The walls and ceilings had been caved in by years of weathering, and the tables that held food and sat bored parents now laid broken upon the cracked checkered tile flooring. Somehow, it's almost as if in the time it took my to remember, tens of years had past.
I take in my surroundings and notice a door that was still closed, or more accurately, still intact. With my interest piqued, I begin to walk across the room to the door. As I cross the room, the decay is even more apparent. Puddles of water are everywhere due to the roof being caved in in several areas. Bugs still linger, eating whatever scraps they can. This place always did have a bug problem. Mold grows in a few patches here and there. Finally, I reach the door.
The door had a white sign on it that read "Employees Only" in bold black text. I grabbed the knob and cracked the door open. I poked my head through the opening and saw a room full of plastic yellow heads and metal skeletons. In the center of the room sat a long table, a workbench of sorts. What sat on the table was a yellow animatronic; a rabbit. It was moldy, withered, and disfigured in areas.
As I peeked at the old animatronic, a horrible stench hit me. I pulled away from the door, trying not to breathe in the heavy, rank odor. It stunk of death and mold. The feeling I got from this thing was bone-chilling. It felt evil. I returned for a second, closer look, so i covered my nose with my shirt and leaned in pretty far. The thing's whole body was torn to shreds. Pieces of machinery shot out from different directions. I looked onto a whole in the torso and saw what appeared to be exposed organs. While caught off guard, something else caught my attention. Something had shimmered on the rabbits face. The eyes. It's sees me.
A combination of fear and the odd angle I was standing in caused me to stumble into the cursed room. I looked away from the rabbit to focus on not falling. I, after catching myself, quickly looked at the animatronic, but it was nowhere to be seen. I walked to where it was once sitting. I felt a chill run down my spine as I noticed presence behind me. I whipped around to see it standing there. Standing side by side shows just how much bigger it is. I tried to run, but it grabbed me by my arm. Its vicelike grip kept me from fleeing, so it fully grabbed ahold of me and effortlessly lifted me from the ground.
The creature lifted me to be face to face with it. I felt and heard it labored breathing, its lungs clearly collapsed and ran through by metal. This monster felt alive but very dead at the same time. It began opening its mouth, its rusted mouth joints screeching as it did, revealing an almost mummified face with the same glossy, dead eyes that seemed to pierce my soul.
In a wispy breath, it struggled out the words, "Come join me." It then slowly opened its real mouth so wide, it began causing its dried, dead skin to begin to tear. A second passed that felt like hours. Suddenly, small black tendrils flew out and attached themselves to my face. Voices of children swirled in my head. Whispers of "Run", "hide", "die", and "join" overlapped as the increasing amount of tendrils inched me closer to the face of the monster. The tendrils pulled me into the maw of the beast, an inch away from to its humanoid head. Eye to eye. The jaws then began to creak and screech ungodly loud next to my ears. I struggled to get away even harder, pushing the rabbit and pulling my head. The voices began getting louder, to the point of screaming. The dead eyes stared at me struggling to get away until-
SNAP...
And I woke up.
