A tear slowly slid down my cheek until a gust of cold wind blew sideways into my hair. It tickled. I didn't wanna go home yet, The fighting was too loud. I wish they would shut the fuck up for two seconds. I looked down at my brother, and was shocked to see him crying also. He was only fourteen with golden blonde hair and cute little dimples when he smiled. It pained me to have him go through all of this at such a young age.

"You wanna start heading home Jacob?" I asked reluctantly.

He shook his head, "Can't we stay ten more minutes? " he pleaded.

I sighed, "it's getting cold, and we didn't even bring coats." I gestured to the thin cotton shirt he was clad in, his little body trembling from the cold.

"Come on, we better hurry before it gets dark." I said, ignoring his groan of disagreement, and held my hand out to pull him up. I held on to his hand, pulling him to get him to walk faster than a snail's pace. We walked for a good fifteen minutes before I caught sight of our house with the familiar sloping roof and the crumbling, faded paint. the Second I opened the front door, a musty scent hit my nostrils, making me cringe. I tiptoed up the stairs, pulling my brother along with me, into my rooms. We both sat on my bed listening to sounds of fighting. All we heard was blissful silence, luckily. I walked to my dresser and pulled out the bottom drawer, pulling out some potato chips, two cans of coke, and cookies. I heard my brothers stomach growl and chuckled.

"Here." Throwing him a bag of the chips, following with the soda. He eyed me as I walked over with the cookies.

"Sooo, planning on sharing?" he asked.

"Nope" I replied, popping the P, but stiil gave him two cookies, and then proceeded to take two out for myself. I sealed the bag together to save for the next time my parents started fighting, which had been happening more and more lately.

I glanced at the time, "oh crap, you should go to bed Jacob, we have school tomorrow."

He scrunched his face in response "Uuugghhhh, school."

I laughed, "yeah I know, and its only gonna be worse if you're tired so go to sleep."

He looked at me pleadingly, "Can I sleep with you tonight? Pleeaasseee?"

I smirked" Why? Are you too scared to sleep alone?"

He shook his head "No, you know why." I sobered up immediately, because, yeah, I did.

"Fine" I sighed, "but don't hog all my sheets, and don't snore in my ear, and OH! DO NOT drool on my pillow, like you did last time"

He huffed defiantly " I didn't drool on you're pillows."

"Oh yeah? Do you want me to show you the stain? " I challenged.

"Puh-lease, Kaylee, stop being such a wussy" he grinned at me.

I laughed, "A wussy? Is that the best you got?" we continued bickering like this for five minutes, before I finally held my hand up surrender.

"Okay, Okay! Lets go to sleep now, I give up on you" I said.

He smiled in triumph , and walked to over to my closet, and pulled out the clothes he kept there, for situations such as these. He slid into the bathroom that was connected to my room, and changed. While he was doing that, I slid onto bed, claiming my comforter before he came back and snatched it away from me. When he got back out, I was already half asleep, and all I remember was his voice repeating the words I had earlier thought.

"I wish they'd just stop fighting." Yeah, me too.

The next morning I woke up to my alarm blaring, making me get an immediate head ache. On top of that Jacob was snoring directly in to my ear. I scrunched up my face, and reluctantly climbed out of my comfy bed. Right once I did cold air surrounded me were my warm comforter had been, making me shiver. I stared at my bed mournfully, but dragged my feet towards my closet. I picked out my outfit for the day, simple dark-washed skinny jeans, with a black V neck t-shirt covered a purple and white striped jumper. I showered quickly, and threw on the clothes, while straightening my light brown hair. I added some lip gloss and mascara, and went to wake Jacob up. I put my hand under the flowing tap water, and took my dripping hand and flicked the water onto Jacob. I would have spilled water on him, but that would have gotten my bed wet. He jumped awake.

"whhaa ? whys it raining?" I cracked up laughing , looking at his face that was contorted in confusion. As he became slowly became coherent, his eyes went from puzzled to glaring a hole in my body.

"Get up." I said between fits of laughter. "We're gonna be late."

He growled. "You better make something good for breakfast, or else you might find a nasty surprise in your bed tonight." He grinned evilly

I made a face at him "You're gross. Now get you're lazy ass up, and go take a shower. You smell."

He obliged, and I went downstairs to make breakfast. My parents had already gone to work, already, so I didn't need to worry about them. I scrambled some eggs and fried some bacon, putting some on a plate for me, and dumping the rest in another plate for Jacob. How that boy ate so much was beyond me.

I quickly shoved my food onto my mouth, and yelled at Jacob to hurry the hell up. He came pounding down the stairs, his eyes lighting up when he saw the food, "I guess your bed is safe after all." He said, with a mouth full of bacon.

"Ew close you're mouth, and grab you're stuff, you can eat in the car. We're gonna be so late" I yelled while pulling my backpack on to my shoulder, and franticly searching for my car keys. Sighing in relief when I found them.

I walked to the door with Jacob behind be, and I waited for him to get out so I could locke the door. Once it was secure, I walked to the car, throwing my bag in the back, with Jacob, and got in the car, staring it. Jacob immediately started fiddling with the dials for the radio. He settled on one, and I immediately recognized the song. It was Science and Faith, by The Script. I hummed it the entire way to the school.

When I finally pulled into the parking, we had 4 minutes until first period. I had some running to do. I turned off the car, and grabbed my bag before sprinting across the courtyard and into the school.

"Shit." I breathed under my breathe.

Just as I was about to turn the corner of the hallway, I ran into a hard chest. My bag, which I had hurriedly half zipped earlier this morning, fell from my shoulder, efficiently spilling all its contents. "Aw Fuck!" I yelled and scrambled down to pick everything up, and stuffing back into the bag, while glaring at the jerk that had caused this delay.

"Watch where you're going next time." I huffed at him.

"Me? You're the one that blundered into me." He said, with annoyance.

"How the hell was I supposed to see you, from around the corner, and thanks for the help, by the way." I said sarcastically gesturing to the backpack I was now zipping, its contents back in place.

"Naw, its okay, the view is much better from up here." He smirked.

"Dick" I said, as I pushed past him.

He chuckled and looked past me " 3, 2, 1..." I looked behind me to see wat he was counting for, right when the bell rang.

"SSHHIITTT!" I shrieked, as I sprinted towards the door, flipping the jerk off before pulling the door to my classroom, getting inside and the last ring of the bell echoed around the room.
