It was a hot summer day and Jane was wearing a thick sweater on the last day of school with high water curdoroys.

All the other girls had on cute denim high waisted shorts and crop tops. But Jane didn't care about her outfit of the day, she was worrying about getting a meal for her and her family.

She swiped her I.D card on the free lunch line and began to eat her processed cheese and stale crust school pizza. "I can't believe you actually eat that stuff!" said Ally, her closest friend at this school.

"Hey it's better than nothing." I say plainly. Ally knows my family isn't that rich, but she doesn't know what it's really like and I don't think I want her to. I love her but she can be a blabber mouth.

I go up to the lunch lady, Ms. Nellie, and she hands me all the extra tuna sandwiches in a large brown bag. I thank her a million times. This will feed me and my family for a week. "Have a good summer" she calls after me, I wave and run out of the building as the bell rings.

Aaahhh, summer. A time for teen girls to let loose, tan, and party. Nope, for me it means longer work hours and more starving night's.

When I walk in mom jumps up and hugs me. Woah. "Mom calm dow-

"We're staying with aunt Sue in California for the summer!!!" Mom announces. Just then my sister hugs me from behind, bumping into me. I roll my eyes, I love her with all my heart but sometimes she is just sooo annoying. And did my mom say California? And we're staying with a relative, that means we don't have to pay for food or T.V or anything. This will be a great summer.
