She doesn't

"But like why? It's an important day. You should celebrate it even if it's small" she retorts. I let out a sigh, "Look I lost my parents a few years ago. When I was in foster care you didn't celebrate birthdays even when I was adopted I just didn't. Now it's really a day that reminds me I'm older than last year and another year without them". We both have stopped at this point in the middle of the walkway just looking at each other. When I look at Jessie I expect to see what I see from everyone else. Pity. But when I look at her eyes soften and she looks back at me.

Probably trying to get a read on how I really feel.

She just hugs me hesitantly not sure how I'll react, "I'm sorry Elliot. Really you don't deserve any of this". I tense for a bit but quickly relax hugging her back, "Thanks Jess". Again this thing seems to happen and time moves slow. I'm only an inch or two taller than her, so her arms are wrapped around my waist resting on my hips while mine are around her torso. Her chin is resting on my shoulder while my face is buried in her neck slightly. I don't know why but I feel safe. Like I'm with someone like Daan or Tobin and Christen. Which is weird seeing as I've only known the shy introvert for a short time. That it's self is strange as it usually takes me a long time to warm up to most people. The only people being an exception being Daan, Christen and Tobin and a few others.

And now Jessie Fleming

I honestly couldn't tell you how long we stayed like that before one of us pulled away. She gives my hands one last squeeze before we continue walking to the field. Honestly we started a game of 20 questions. I asked her when's her birthday and it went from there. From important stuff like most important thing in your life to pointless stuff like favourite colour. We kept going until we got to the field. When we got there, people were already standing around, passing a ball warming up. I see Tyler is sitting on the ground talking to another guy when he sees us. He bolts up from the ground and dashes over to us babbling at top speeds, "I can't believe you came! I told everyone you might stop by but no one believed you would! And now your here! And you brought her! Oh my god your Jessie Fleming! I'm a-". "Tyler Tyler calm down. Now I need you too take a deep breath. We don't want to make a big deal, we just want to play a bit of footie" I stop his rant. Tyler nods his head rapidly and quickly introduces us to everyone.

After a quick stretch and warm up we split into teams. Somehow Jess and I ended up on the same team much to the other team's dismay. But we were a player down to make up for it so we ploughed on. Jess and I were midfield for our team. And surprised to say that for the first time actually playing together Jess and I connected really well on the pitch. It's like we could read what the other was going to do next, it was insane! Enough so that we had to change the teams again and give the give other a 6 player advantage. Even then we were running circles around them but what did you expect when two internationals are playing.

The final score was 4-2 to us with me scoring 2, Jess the third and I assisted Tyler for the last one. It was great. Expect for this one guy that kept hanging around me. I didn't know what was happening but he kept trying to come close to me. I was talking to Jess and had just texted Julie that we were at the field near the hotel when he came over to us again. "Hey nice work today your an unreal player" he complimented. I just shrug, "It was nothing I'd say Jessie did most of the work". Jessie blushes and looks down at her boots which causes me to chuckle a small bit. But he decides to speak up again, "Nah I think it was all you. You were unstoppable". I raise an eyebrow. This guy is both rude and can't seem to take a hint. "Uh well I think we're going to be on our way" I say as Jess and I turn to go get our bags.
