was gonna make a comment about how it feels like im falling lower and lower and mkre down until inevitably something really bad happens and everyone's gone and i have no more energy and i finally hit the bottom but i literally wrote a oneshot about that back in june lmao

thiswas part of a joke but the way it was worded didnt make sense and it was just an excuse for me to ramble about why the redemption arc from taking off to mudstone abyss part 3 works so well and stands out from most tragic-backstory-redemptions so here is that ramble on its own reworded. i promise the fact that irs literally a page long (for mobile) run-on sentence was a part of the joke 😔

"kevin's redemption arc humanizes him while still showing that said human is riddled with flaws, shows a downer of a backstory that explains his actions without excusing them and adding complexity instead of erasing it with "he was sad so hes magically fine now", has him be forced to act a certain way but makes it far more complex than just "he left so its all chill he's automatically back to pre-strex and has zero problems and this affected him negativelt in no way whatsoever", has people push him toward redemption while still making him have to accept that his actions are wrong on his own and experience the consequences of his actions and (in the end) redeem himself instead of being redeemed, has him be forced to do bad things while still doing bad things on his own for complicated reasons, has him improve steadily with some roadblocks over a large amount of time instead of going from horrific villain to perfect stand-up citizen in two seconds, is all around excellently written in a realistic but still sympathetic way that makes it genuinely emotional, and shows that kevin is an incredibly complex character with complicated and sometimes contradictory motives and has his redemption add to that and not detract from it."
