I'd only been gone for maybe ten minutes. A friend of mine from college wanted to chat, but I had to cut it short. Leaving Sawyer and Kaylee alone didn't seem like a good idea, they argued way too much.

Ten minutes.

At least.. I really thought it'd only been ten. But then how on earth did the pile of cookies on the counter disappear so fast? I swear, there'd been so many, they were falling off of the plate.

Sawyer and Kaylee were sitting beside each other on the bar stools. He poked her cheek playfully. "They can't all be your favorite."

Kaylee reached for a chocolate cookie, shooting him a look of doubt. "The fuck they can't."

"Kaylee.." I said slowly. She stilled, refusing to turn around even as I peered over her shoulder. "How many of those have you had?"

"A few."

Sawyer started laughing, clutching at his stomach. "More like a few dozen."

She glared daggers right before landing a punch on his shoulder. "Fuck you."

"For what?" He asked. His grin turned arrogant. "For snitching on you, or making such amazing cookies?"

She shoved the chocolate cookie into her mouth. "Dah fiiist un."

I sighed, shaking my head as I sat on the other side of Sawyer. "It's not good to eat so much sugar all at once."

"Have you tried them?" She asked.

"No."

"Then you don't understand," she grabbed an oatmeal raisin cookie and offered it to me. "Here."

"I'm okay--"

She shoved the whole thing into my mouth, completely ignoring the look I was giving her. She knew I was on a diet, she knew I was trying to stay healthy and in shape. Aside from pizza, I'd been doing very well.

"Go on."

Sawyer pursed his lips, looking at me like maybe he was self conscious about why I wouldn't try his cookies. I couldn't have him thinking I didn't appreciate his effort, or wasn't willing to--at the very least-- try his cookies.

So I ate it, barely able to keep the whole thing in my mouth. The two of them watched me expectantly, impatiently waiting for some kind of response. "It's.. good."

Kaylee's eyebrows furrowed.

The corners of Sawyer's lips sunk. "You didn't like it?"

"Of course I did," I said nervously, my smile as uneasy as my stomach. "Don't be silly."

Based off of the offended expression he was trying to mask, he didn't believe me.

Why couldn't I have been more convincing? Why couldn't I enjoy the taste of cookies, like normal people? "I--"
