Just for a moment

A/U: so i drabble this little thing in about 30 minutes last night before sleep so it's kinda mess and full with mistakes but hope you like and enjoy it and wish you a very happy new year

Salt Lake City's New Year's party was something Nini was already used to attend since she had memory, she and her moms would wear clothes that match in colors but each one had their own styles. There was nothing different this years except for the fact that this was the first year she didn't make plans with Ricky to go there together.
They were best friends since they were 5, and each year attended as best friend, except last year's when  they were officially a couple and this year they couldn't even say they were friends.
"I think I might be over Chicago to spend with my mom on New Year's Eve"
Nini overheard him say to Red the last time she saw him, if there was any year that she didn't welcome it with Ricky by her side she couldn't remembered it.
-You okay baby? -Her mother Carol asked her
-Yes mom, great -Nini gave her the best try of a smile hoping that would convince her
-if you are bored you know you could go to the next salon where some of your school friends are dancing -Nini didn't want to go there and see all her friends happy and ruin their moods with her own unhappiness
-I think I'll just go grab some air and be back before the toast -Nini said standing and walking off before her mother could ask for more, the knot in her throat was getting bigger and if her mom kept digging, crying wouldn't be far, she went to an open space of the hotel where she sat in a bench, for her own misery, even that hidden spot brought back memories of her and Ricky, they rushing out with desserts even when their parents told them to wait for the dinner first, holding hands and trying hard to control the butterflies in her stomach when Ricky said she looked pretty, she missed Ricky so much -Fuck - she muttered resting her head at the back of the chair with her eyes closed when she arrived to that conclusion
-You haven't even see me and already cursing? -The too familiar voice surprised making her snap her head back to find that pair of deep brown eyes
-Ri...Ricky? What are you doing here? -She was completely taken aback
-New year's eve party here is tradition, you know that -He said pointing at the spot next to her and taking a sit there after she nod in agreement
-I thought you were going to Chicago
-Stalker much? -Ricky said jokingly making her to roll her eyes
-I heard you, not that I'm obsessive -She excuses herself
-Whatever let you sleep at night Neens -Everytine he called her Neens her heart skipped a beat
-You are avoiding my question...
-I was planning on going there, but my mom surprised us by coming here, I guess that she felt bad for all the changes in my life this last year she didn't want to add another -He shrugged as it wasn't big deal, but Nini could saw how he was really affected by that
-Too many changes in one year, I know -She gave him an apologetic smile
-Tell me about it, last year I was here my parents were happily married, I was happy not acknowledging the existence of high school musical, we were dating and I thought it all would be that way forever, and now my mother is living in other city, I know every Troy Bolton line by memory and you barely speak to me when it's not school related -He shrugged looking at his hands but Nini could swore he was trying hard to keep his voice steady
-I like the Troy Bolton one -She try to joke to light the mood and that caused him to chuckle softly -I hate the last one -She said fast without putting too much mind on it
-Then why do you pull so many walls? -Ricky asked now looking directly at her eyes
-Because... if I don't I will fall again and you will push me again and it was the worst feeling I've ever had Ricky, I can't go through that again
-And what if this time is different? -He asked hope painted all over his face
-How could it be different?
-Because now I am not afraid to tell you how much I love you -Nini had her mouth opened in surprise, she was expecting anything but that coming from his mouth, and it was not only the words, but how he said so steady and sure of every single word, she kept in silence for what Ricky felt like a decade, and maybe it could be because suddenly the fireworks were all over the sky announcing the new decade was starting and Nini pressed her lips to his in a kiss that lasted not more than 10 seconds
-Happy new year Ricky -She said with the biggest grin on her face causing that Ricky's confusion disappear and replace it with a bigger grin as well
-Happy new year Nini -He answered back glad, they were both glad that they manage to start the new year together as they have done for the whole decade, and as they always should do.
