your cold eyelashes
fluttered against my cheek,
tears dripped salty liquid onto my lips.you were like a butterfly,
beautiful and free -
once a locked up caterpillar,
limited to leaves on trees,
bushes and the flowing grass.you'd long forgotten
how you'd persevered,
not once acknowledging
how truly strong you are,
once a caterpillar,
now a butterfly
flying in the distance,
far away from me.but i will follow,
at a distance enough to hide,
but close enough
to catch you when you fall
and show you just how beautiful
you've become.
