Droplets of rain pooled onto of Mya's umbrella and dripped of the edges, occasionally splashing her face. she gripped the umbrella tighter as a gust of Wellington wind nearly knocked it out of her hands. Mya continued walking but soon noticed a boy sheltering his eyes and trying to decide whether or not to cross. The rain continued to pelt down and the boy decided it was clear to walk. Mya decided to check just in case when she noticed a car speeding towards the boy [who looked no more than ten ]. And in a split second she had made her decision. She darted forward, and pushed him out of the way. In the second before the screeching noise of brakes and the sirens broke out, her eyes meet his. They were a deep blue that looked as if they could hold the sea in them and she held onto the color and the utter innocence on his face in the next few minutes of screaming and blurred lights. Who was that girl screaming in the distance? Mya closed her eyes still holding the deep blue eyes in her mind before the darkness reached up its clawed hands to receive her unto its depths.
...
When Mya opened her eyes everything was blurry and out of focus but after a while the world no longer swam and danced into colors and shapes that She had never seen before. Mya sat up a little bewildered and looked around, feeling quite disorientated. Where was she ? The last thing she could remember was the deep blue color of the boys eyes that she had pushed out of the way. Then with a sudden jolt of fear she realized that she was not surrounded by white washed walls nor by white beds sheets and nurses with clip boards or even tubes or machines beeping next to her. No. The walls were polished ebony and the floor had a deep gray carpet lain upon it. there was a bedside table [also polished ebony] with a lamp that glowed yellowy white and a scroll underneath the lamp, pinned to the table with a paperweight that looked like the moon.
Carefully Mya picked up the scroll and replaced the moon paperweight on the table. Gently she unrolled it, trying very hard not to rip it. MISS MYA SMITH OF WELLINGTON , NEW ZEALAND , EARTH ... THE GODS OF GREEK REQUEST YOU TO GET INTO SOMETHING FORMAL FROM THE CLOSET ON THE FAR WALL. MEET US IN THE ROOM DOWN THE HALLWAY ( YOU CANT MISS IT ITS THE BIG DOUBLE DOORS AT THE END ) FOR THE FINAL JUDGEMENT , MANY THANKS, ZEUS , HADES, APOLLO, ARES, HERMES, POSEIDON, APHRODITE , ARTEMIS , ATHENA , DEMETER, HERA, HESTIA, TYCHE. Mya sighed and put down the scroll. she was dead. Dead at fourteen, GREAT! She did suppose it was her fault for jumping in front of the boy and pushing him away. But what's to become of her dream of working on biomedical sciences like her aunt?
Sighing, Mya stood up an walked toward the wardrobe. she thought about the dress she had seen a picture of in fashion and design, secretly hoping it was there in a dark emerald green to match her red hair and green eyes. And upon opening the closet she was not disappointed. for there hung up was a ball gown very similar to the one she had hoped for. This one had an off shoulder look and was slim around the torso but upon reaching the hips it flowed outwards. The top shoulder line of the dress was decorated with gems and the last bit before the floor was as well. It was a deep green and had a pair of earrings and a few hair pins with it. Mya picked the dress out of the closet and laid it on the bed. Sitting down next to to carefully, Mya wondered how she was going to do her hair up nicely as her hair dressing skills were about as good as a ponytail and that's it.
Before she had been left wondering for long the door burst open and a stout little woman came in. she wore a pink dress , her hair was short and in gentle ringlets around her ears which was also pink. " Hello Mya! I'm Jessie your nymph helper for the judging. now come on we don't have much time." Jessie was a whirl wind of makeup, hair and getting Mya into the green ball gown and before long she declared Mya done. "have a look at yourself dear! Oh don't you just look wonderful?" she smiled gently. Waved goodbye and wished Mya luck.
A Pit of snakes was writhing in Mya's stomach as she re-read the writing on the scroll and started to walk down the long ominous hallway. The hallway was Mahogany and every few steps there was an interesting painting to looks at. Mya saw some she knew like the Mona Lisa and starry night sky but a lot of them she really had no idea what they were supposed to be .By the time she had reached the end ,the snakes had been replaced by a heard of stampeding buffalo and her heart was beating so loudly she was sure the whole underworld could hear it. Mya's hand trembled as she reached out to the door handle and pulled the massive Mahogany door open....
